has it been confirmed that this is a real remaster without all the DNR that was on the 1st release?

It says a remaster but no we don't know now and won't know until the actual disc is available for review if excessive DNR is still an issue. Cautious me says this won't be a day one buy.

Exactly. MGM/Fox rarely send out product pre-date, and if they do it's only a few days prior, so reviews won't be up in the amount needed to get a good feel for this one. Shills will still shill and just say whatever to try to get pageviews, but people actually doing the job right will take longer, but will provide the analysis potential buyers will need.

There might an exchange program as there was for Out of Africa. That seemed to work well.

What the general public is unaware of is the true meaning of "remaster." I could take a film and convert it to VHS via one of those cheapie light boxes pointed at a video camera and Bingo, the tape I just created is a new master. So, I just remastered the movie, great, but it implies absolutely nothing about the quality. Then, if I did a video grab of said VHS tape to a PC, I just remastered it again. Then, when I convert the videograb to a blu-ray format and tell the software to use 1080P as the video resolution, the new video file is considered a remaster yet again.
So, on November 6th will we be getting a cheapie film to vhs to videograb to 1080p conversion or will they do something else? -

Fox is well aware that they screwed up the last Blu-ray. The guy in charge of asset preservation there these days (who was not responsible for the last Blu-ray) takes these things seriously. I expect that this disc should be a genuine improvement.

Yeh I doubt it will have a recall but it is there, annoying and lasts at least 20 seconds if you listen carefully. It shouldn't be there and I would have hesitated to order for Day One at full price if I had known about it. The people who made the HD master should have caught it. The people at the disc manufacturing plants should have caught it. The reviewers should have caught it. Their reviews give us the impression that they listen very closely to every film they assess. Obviously Quality Control today is not that good. We seem to be having more of these issues recently.

@josh: Your suggestion is very interesting. If so this "mistake" might be a great way to demonstrate the difference between lossless and lossy audio. But enough about it! I don't want to hijack this Patton discussion any longer.
