Help me Pick Out Best BDMV by Years
hello,
Recently, I asked if there was a way for me to sort review AND date...found out it was not possible.
Basically, I want to pick out only one movie that stands out for each year from 2000 onwards. That is, the year of theatrical release, not when the BD was released.
I have limited shelf space and funding so I'm looking to have a small, yet worthwhile collection.
Criteria:
- close to reference quality video/audio
- good movie
- good rewatchability of movie itself (don't care too much about supplements/extras)
2000: Memento (proposed)
2001: Monsters Inc (proposed)
2002: ???
2003: ???
2004: ???
2005: ???
2006: Casino Royale (proposed)
2007: There will be Blood
2008: Iron Man
2009: District 9
2010: Inception
2011: ???
2012: ???
I also own the following boxsets: Bourne, Toy Story, Nolan Batman (soon). I have a feeling most of it will be action movies so some diversity would be great. Not looking for documentaries.
Please fire away suggestions for either ??? or proposed entries. Movies only, no TV series. -

Suggestions: you don't need to have only one film per year of production. Buy what you like, what you hear is a great disc for films you like, and expand that way. Limiting yourself by demanding only one per year is like saying you want a film collection where no movie has the letter "s" anywhere in the title, or only films that are the twelfth remake of a sequel to a prequel of a remake.
What if the 2 best discs were from the same year? Are you really going to limit yourself and get a film you may like less solely on that basis?!
Another thing you should try is the review sorter from cinemasquid.com. select a site, and then it pops up all of their reviews with the scores. then click on video or audio and it will sort high low or low high and you can see the dates on each and every review that fits the criteria that you're looking for.
Also: by saying no TV, that means you're waving a middle finger at Band of Brothers on Blu-ray. THAT is a mistake, one of many that said qualifiers will create.Nate Boss

Hoping to get a new cult for Christmas. Already tired of playing with the last one. -

02: Road to Perdition
03: Last Samurai, X-men 2, Finding Nemo (will probably be reference, release 12/2012)
04: Incredibles, I Robot, The Day After Tomorrow
05: King Kong, Kingdom of Heaven
11: Hugo
12: too soon to say, but I would bet on Avengers and Hobbit at the very least.
I wouldn't rule out TV shows.
Band of Brothers (from 2001) and Game of Thrones, Season 1 (from 2011) are both excellent. -

project blu, it may seem like a totally strange way to go about 'collecting' but I just simply don't have the shelfspace to showcase a decent-sized collection, nor the $$ to spend. If I don't have shelfspace for it, it's likely going to be boxed up which to me becomes useless. I do agree that I shouldn't strictly stick to this rule though.
As for TV, I also already own boxsets band of brothers, BBC Natural History Collection 1 and 2, 2010 olympics men's hockey and will definitely pick up breaking bad's full boxset (possibly Game of thrones if all seasons are as great as it is now)
i'm focusing on building the movie collection...thanks for the suggestion to check out that site.
Keep them coming

2011: Hugo, Harry Potter: Deathly Hollow Part 2
2012: My bet is either Avengers or Dark Knight Rises (with the edge going to DKR if they release it with IMAX scenes in tact)My mancave:
