I'm a bit confused, is the extended version only on the DVD, not on the Blu-ray? If so that really does seem stupid. Still may have to buy it though since this is one of my favorites. Can't believe I didn't notice it had already been released.

I already have it on HD DVD, but since I never say the extended cut and the audio is improved a little with the new codec, I will pick this up when the price is cheap enough. May trade the HD DVD version in with Best Buy to get $5 off.

The extended version of "Waterworld" was produced for TV; I believe it was ABC who aired it in the late 90s. I'd think that, given the era, it was probably edited/compiled on videotape, and that an HD version does not exist.
The extended version is also censored for language, nudity and other content (again, it aired on network TV in primetime).Well, I don't want Fop, goddammit. I'm a Dapper Dan man.

I figured I'd give this blu-ray a try, especially with the promise of the extended version (which I've never seen) on the DVD. I was looking forward to seeing the extra scenes, which most fans (of the extended version) insist add quite a bit to the movie experience.
Imagine my disappointment, then, when I opened the wrapping to find the words "Theatrical Version" on the included DVD.
Needless to say, I wasn't impressed.
(I've since checked with Universal. According to them: "Our policy is to release the original, unedited versions of films as they were presented in theatres. As you have found, the Blu-ray release of "Waterworld" does not include an extended version."
A word to the wise for those considering a purchase, like me.)
