'Get the Gringo' - High-Def Digest Review
Mel Gibson is in fine form in 'Get the Gringo.' Will this mark a turning point in his career? Is Mad Mel the new king of DTV releases? Watch out Seagal, E says this film is recommended!

Did ANYONE get this who is willing to admit to it? It's doing well on the charts, so I know I'm not the only one to blind buy it.

If I don't get a review copy soon I will blind-buy it. Always thought it looked great.

I've was able to rent it last weekend. Not bad. Found it to be entertaining in an over the top action sort of way. Mel is good. Reminded me of his performance in Payback.

Yeah. This is just going on what I've read, but folks are saying Driver is Porter, and Porter is Driver.

I want to check this out. Personal issues and beliefs aside, I like Mel as an actor.

Mel is so back, and home theatre?
Get the Gringo was a blind buy for me and I loved it. Proves that Mad Mel still has what it takes and can still deliver a very entertaining movie. One thing in the review that bugged me though is the mention of home theatre taking preference over movie theatres and that supposedly the gap is getting narrower. I couldn't disagree more. How long has that discussion been taking place? Since TV was invented? Year after year movie theatre's are breaking box office records with record attendance every summer. I think watching more movies at home with better equipment is just making people love movies more which just drives them to the theatre more often. Just my opinion. Nothing at home will ever replace the movie theatre experience.

Actually, attendance is down. The only reason movies still seem to make big money is that ticket prices have risen significantly, especially for 3D or premium venues like IMAX.
It used to be that popular movies would play for months. Now, we have a 90-day turnaround from theatrical premiere to Blu-ray, and studios are pushing to shorten that further (only pressure from theater owners has stopped them). Most movies get the vast majority of their attendance in the opening weekend, and have usually vanished from theaters in a couple weeks.
The only reason that movie theaters still exist at all is that teenagers need a place to hang out, socialize with friends and spend their disposable income, other than buying drugs in the park.Josh Z
