Criterion doesn't even need to factor into it.
He remastered 'Fight Club' and 'Se7en' for their blu-ray releases through Fox and Warner respectively and, I think most everyone will agree, both of those discs look excellent.
Steve Zissou: Anne-Marie, do all the interns get Glocks?
Anne-Marie Sakowitz: No, they all share one.

Then you shouldn't be worried about it then. You've just answered your own question.

    Say what now?

I was never worried about the quality and I never asked a question. I was simply agreeing that Fincher delivers with his remasters, Criterion or otherwise.

Whoops. It was Leterface and Flex that were worried. I have no idea why I thought it was you. Apologies.

Does nobody remember Laserdisc? Back in the days when the terms "box set" and "special edition" used to mean something. This was always on my want list, but then DVD's came and never could justify the huge (at the time) outlay!
    Never hit DVD though.

My Laserdisc player is on the other side of the country, and beautiful as it was back then, it makes me sad to compare by old Laserdisc releases to the Blu-rays.

The Game was released as a bare bones version on DVD sometime ago. I had it until I bought the HD DVD which wasn't much of an upgrade.

I think he was referring to the Criterion version never reaching DVD.

I have waited what seems like eons for this release. I originally transferred by Criterion Laserdisc to DVD painstakingly trying to do so for the commentary as well. I wonder if this commentary will be different or if they're recycling the commentary. Does anyone know?

Edit: Does seem like the much of the laserdisc will be recycled. A new commentary along with the old would have been nice, but alas. Either way, cannot wait for this is if it has a great new transfer.

I'm little sceptical of the PQ difference of the Criterion BD vs Universal BD, but I'd love to be proven wrong!

I am really excited about this. So much so, I may have to buy it day one and I hate paying that much even for a Criterion release.
