The show is just amazing. I honestly cant say I have watched a better story unfold on the big or small screen.

Sad to see it end but I am glad they are going out with a plan in place.

I received this a few days ago and am having major problems with the subtitles.

The Spanish dialogue does not have accompanying English subtitles come up automatically - i.e. you have to manually select the English subtitle track if you want to understand the Spanish, and then turn it off again.

I own all 3 other seasons on Blu and none of those have the same problem, with the subtitles appearing correctly at the right time.

Did the reviewer not notice a problem? Could mine have perhaps come from a faulty batch?

The best place to check is Episode 7 where Gus has the first sit-down with the Cartel.

What region blu-ray do you have?

Hi,

It's Region A imported from the US. I was thinking maybe they had sourced their stock from Mexico or something, hence no Spanish subs, but it is a genuine US edition, and has exactly the same details on the back as the first 3 seasons.

Barcode is 043396389007.

It's very odd, but as the reviewer makes no mention of this It's even more confusing.

I have now checked the discs on another player and it is the same there. It's either a faulty disc or a manufacturing error on Sony's part.

I also disagree strongly about the video - there is some horrible gradation and banding throughout, which is very distracting, especially in low-light scenes. I'm shocked that this was not picked up on. It is also notably less grainy than previous seasons and looks to have been artificially smoothed.

Apart from the extras, which are stunning, Sony have really ballsed up this release IMO

Interesting: The review here praised the video while on Blu-ray.com they complain about a lot of issues with the video and rated it a lot lower than season 3. Don´t know what to believe now :-(.

I have no allegiances. I signed up to see if anyone else had this subtitle problem. I've reviewed for sites in the past, so believe me!

I also have the retail discs - perhaps the check discs sites receive for review do not have this problem. The video is certainly sub-par, and having now read the bluray.com review, I think he is spot on with his observations.

I have the same subtitle issue with the 4th season set. My frmware is up to date, but my machine is several years old. Sony BDP-S350.
