'The Divide' - High-Def Digest Review
Nate has reviewed 'The Divide.' He says this is a rough, rough film. Rough. This Blu-ray is solid, though the supplement package is a little light. Because of the content, he advises a rental before a purchase. He can't imagine anyone wanting to watch this again.

Nate, you definitely piqued my curiosity on this one. I guess it's because you just poke at the idea of madness rather than spelling it all out for us. I am hesitantly considering this one. I like psychological stuff, not necessarily stuff that just wants to gross you out. Do you think this one works that way?

yes, pretty depressing, disturbing flick. makes you wonder if you're with your neighbors in such a situation how that would play out. as a guy I know I'd definitely off 2 pple in this group lol.

If I spelled out the madness in this film we may have had a suicide by a reader. It gets REALLY freaking intense/insane. It's not gross-out, by any means, though a few scenes are not for those of weaker constitution. It's a descent into madness, making all the stops along the way. Sometimes it jumps a few steps and makes a big leap in insanity, sometimes it's just a subtle crawl. By the end, you'll be BEGGING for it to end, as it abuses you for a good two hours, and does SO MUCH in that time.
Really, one of the few films that can fill 2 hours with content and be original and fresh the whole time, but it's 2 hours of mindfuck, far worse than anything anyone did to any pilot in Evangelion, the show or the movies.Nate Boss

I loved the film, but am already too far gone. Nate, I thought you would love it like REC.

For a while I was digging it, but it just went too far.

You know, just food for thought but imo it wasn't entirely a descent into madness. I think it's a study on how normal people would react under these circumstances, being enclosed together in a basement for months, barely surviving and living in fear. Inevitably they would start to pair off & create a divide amongst themselves, living in a basement world and designating who would be the rulers and followers. They started out as your average everyday next door neighbor, but the circumstances led to their behavior where their inner animals came out. A virus might have something to do with the behavior but these were the true underlying personalities of these people. At a certain point the movie becomes predictable because you're aware that the director is trying to make everything as unpleasant as possible for the viewer.

I liked the first 3/4 of this film, then it got stupid, fast.

Got around to watching this earlier today and totally agree with Nate. Not bad, but not astounding either. However, in terms of the LFE, this track is simply amazing in its output. We're talking some serious ULF throughout which really adds to the experience and makes you actually feel the rumbling and collapse of buildings overhead. Anyone with the capabilities to reach these depths should check it out just for the fun of the audio.

Movies are so rarely great art that if we cannot appreciate great trash.
we have very little reason to be interested in them.

I saw this recently myself. Man....what a tough watch. It had my attention from the get go and I thought Biehn was great in this one. Just a total breakdown of civility and morals. As I said....good but a very tough watch.
