This movie really fell apart fast. Great concept, but mediocre overall.

average film, yes, but considering how many King trainwrecks i've sat through, it's better than more than a few of 'em.

Hoping to get a new cult for Christmas. Already tired of playing with the last one. -

I think I've seen Thinner twice. I don't remember much about it, except that the acting seemed worse the second time around.
I'm much more puzzled by why they would pick this one to release on Blu. It doesn't have the cult following that IT did, or even the charm of The Stand. Of course, I have no idea what other titles the same company has in their catalog that they might consider. -

I agree that The Stand would be nice to see. I also enjoyed It... well, until the whole ending, which was silly.
King's stories all to often do translate poorly to the screen. There are some real gems that I think should be noted, and my favorite of all is The Green Mile. Others of course include Misery, Dolores Claiborne, The Shawshank Redemption, and I could go on.
So I think it's okay to talk about this one being crap. There are a lot of better ones. This goes in the pile with the crappy ones.Did the primary buffer panel just fall off my gorram ship for no apparent reason?! -

Yeah The Stand does not hold up every well. I tried to watch it about 6 months ago after I finished the book, the book is a LOT better, much of the movie comes off as melodramatic, spotty acting, godawful score and worse SFX. It really sucks that their redoing it as a 2 hour theatrical movie, the book deserves an even longer TV movie, perhaps a full 22 episode season.
I always kind of enjoyed Thinner, even though it's nowhere near as good as the book, really anything with Joe Mantega has a leg up. Still whats with the $29.95 MSRP? It's been a $5 DVD for almost a decade now. I'll pick this up when it's sub $10, won't be long.
Of his true horror books, I'd have to say Pet Semetary is one of the best adaptions. The movie very nicely condences what happened in the book, except for the abbreviated background with Timmy(the guy who was brought back when Jud was a kid), and stands as one of the few movies that still give me the creeps. Though I would love to have seen the Windigo from the book.
Also the new Salem's Lot TV movie was very good, despite what they changed with Father Callahan.HT gear: JVC RS46 3D projector with 147in Hi Power screen, Klipsch RF-7 based 9.1 system, Emotiva XPA5 5 channel amp, Pioneer 1120 reciever, Oppo BDP-95(region free), Xbox 360, Toshiba XA2 -

I'm glad someone else mentioned Dolores Claiborne. The movie actually is so well done, and the story doesn't slip into supernatural territory. The mystery is played out at just the right pace... but I don't think that ever got much recognition. At least not nearly as much as Misery got.
IT was mostly noteworthy since it came out around when I was in 5th grade, and was one of the strongest pieces of horror I had seen at that point. Other people my age have similar memories. The ending fell apart because King's ending was sort of unfilmable, especially on a TV movie budget.
And yes, The Stand didn't age too well. I still love anything with Corin Nemec in it. But they actually did do a good job of approximating the book. They trimmed a massive amount out, but for the amount they left in, it's impressive.
I should look into the new Salem's Lot. I remembered liking the old one, and then when I rewatched it, it felt like it just dragged on forever. -

I have seen this a few times. It was decent enough....nothing special but not bad either. I liked the concept. May get it on the cheap in October. Be something good to watch around then.

Yeah I would love to see IT remade(which I think is happening), with the ending from the book, THAT would be remarkable to see. The Stand movie did manage to get a lot of the material from the book in, it's just very cheesy. Of course King still has a few unfilmed books, I would love to see The Talisman, that would be a solid movie.

Decent movie, but I'll watch it once and never watch it for like 10 years, so I'lll rent it. I'm actually thinning out my movie collection and getting rid of anything I won't watch at least once every 2-3 years because I have way too much movies and I only end up watching specific ones over like LOTR, Star Wars, the Batman movies, etc.

I always had a soft spot for Needful Things really. One of the very few instances where I preferred the film over the book. Shawshank would have to be my favourite movie from a King source story though.
I saw Thinner a few times and thought it was ok. Need to go back and watch It again, only saw it once when I was young and don't really remember it. -

Yeah Needful Things was a really fun movie. Im holding out a small hope that the 3 1/2 hour tv version might come out on Blu Ray.

They need to remake this starring Christian Bale. That dude is committed to losing weight for movies.
Probably won't get this, but I'm definitely getting Pet Sematary. I saw it when I was like 12 and it scared the shit out of me.Check out my HDD reviews or learn more about me here.
