Not too sure about additional signal processing. I could be wrong though.

I guess I don't understand their process, but I fail to see what's to gain from upsampling beyond redundant bits.

I'm surprised it's not become standard in receivers or BD players to upsample all audio to 192k/24bit - you'd think it would be the next logical step in finding something new to add to receivers/players as a new selling point.

It is a hard thing to do depending on the sampling frequency of the source material. Some companies might not think the result is worth the effort. Sometimes the result can sound worse than keeping to the native resolution. (if done badly)

I prefer stereo DACs myself, some I have listened to were so well engineered that it made CDs sound far better than I ever thought a CD could sound. The realism was unbelievable.

The problem with digital sound doesn't lie in the size of the numbers on the page. It's in the mixing techniques. Hot mastering on CDs and slapdash unbalanced surround mixes on bluray are the real problem. That won't be fixed by upsampling.

I don't know how much if any difference this will make. But on the positive side, it's refreshing to hear about an impovement being made that doesn't require me to upgrade my reciever.

I have a more detailed explanation of the upsampling process in the blog today:

Thats what I talking about months ago, why they dont upgrade the audio to 96k, shit this sound good even for the people that had old optical HT that run 96k.

I hope that DTS does the same too.
