This was definitely one of the best horror movies to come along in some time. Nothing in years has had my wife hiding behind her hands like this movie did, the build up of suspense and long lasting scenes of dread and atmosphere really elevate this movie to one of the best PG-13 frightfests you can find. Of course if you are of the younger crowd this might not be your type of film compared to whats usually out there, but if you give it a shot and let it pull you into its world, I think you will be pleasantly surprised, this will be a definite own for me

this movie is creepy but not at all scary, IMO. I prefer creepy than scary, btw.

This movie had some good scares in it and was fun. Although my biggest problem was the 2nd Act of the film really made me think to myself "Are you serious?"
Spoiler:
Besides that I enjoyed the film and would highly recommend it to people who like ghost stories! -

It was a good movie, but nothing worth owning or even watching a second time.

It is just a shame that this release does not seemed to have generated a release for the superior 1989 original.

This is a remake? Is it available on Blu-ray? I don't find this version to be scary or creepy at all.

Yes it certainly is a remake. The original was a slow burn with some genuinely scary and unsettling scenes. Scripted by none other than Nigel Kneale (the creator of Quatermass) too. Unfortunately the author, Susan Hill withdrew the DVD rights back in 2000 and the just released US DVD was withdrawn with some copies making it out to shops etc. Used editions are now in the hundreds of $$$$$ because Susan Hill steadfastly has refused to allow any further releases on optical media.

that is just nuts. I'm not going to spend that kind of money for any movie, especially when it's not even on high-def.

It would appear that she has always intensely disliked Kneale's adaptation and has gone out of her way ever since to try and bury it. This even included crusades against the pirate copies that used to be regularly sold on both Ebay and Amazon. Many have speculated that this intense dislike may have come from the critical acclaim that was heaped on the film at the time, with some critics suggesting that it was better than Hill's book....
The Region 1 DVD is anything but a good transfer though but that fact does still not stop the high prices sought for originals.TV - Pioneer LX6090h 60" 9th Gen Kuro

Not a bad flick. Couple scenes are sub-breakers too, so watch out for those who watch near "reference".
