Same feeling here. There was that touch of charm throughout the film (I attribute to Andrew Stanton) that today's blockbusters just lack. Kinda disappointed we won't see any sequels anytime soon. 3D bluray already preordered.

Okay folks, let me save you some time and money: the 3D was a conversion afterwards and it was pretty crappy. I'd say 2/5.

And I have to disagree with the guy who said "it's all action". There's actually only a small handful of action scenes and lots of dialogue (think Spider-Man 2 style). The action is really good though!

Well not really. He only took parts from Baroom, but in reality, much of his action was drawn from the Lensman series which I recently read. Read those books, and you'll totally see where he picks up the pacing, and the whole Sith vs. Jedi thing from. It's pretty much the quintessential book series for many modern tales like Mass Effect, Green Lantern mythology, Star Wars, and other stuff you might run across. For instance, the whole notion Spectres was directly pulled from Galactic Patrol, as they were police agents that worked outside the law, who only reported to the galactic council, and who could ask, take, and demand anything from anyone at anytime as needed. They were above and beyond reproach of any kind.

I had decent hopes for this one, but man, now it's going to sit on the back burner based on the reviews and the majority of the comments here. Bummer.

It's truly a good film, but it largely depends on your tastes. If you like character development with bits of action, then you might like it. If you like strictly action filled movies with very little story development, then you might not.

Agree with you completely. The moment in the movie when I remember this feeling finally overwhelmed me was during the escape from Shang when he gets on one of the flying machines. At that moment I felt like I could have been watching the OT Star Wars for the first time again.

Movie didn't deserve to go down as the biggest write off in the history of hollywood. It really wasn't anywhere near awful. I liked Michael Giacchino's score.

I much prefer story and character development over action. Sure, action can get the adrenaline pumping, but I'm too much in the business of needing to care about the people involved in the action.

Maybe this will be good for me after all, then? Sweet!

    Default "John Carter" surprisingly good

After hearing all the bad press I decided to see if this was the dog it was made out to be. I was surprised -- it's actually entertaining, even fun!

The story and character development are quite good. The direction feels assured. The production values are top notch. The film moves along nicely and feels shorter than its running time. The cinematography is solid and the film score is great. What's not to like?

OK, admittedly, the filmmakers didn't wholly adhere to what ERB wrote, but taken on it's own, this is one pretty darn good film.

I was just thinking about something. How come this movie came out 3 months after Sherlock Holmes, and yet, it still comes out on video before Sherlock Holmes?

Well, John Carter bombed for one.

#2....I don't know, WB is sure taking their sweet ass time with it. That's all I got.

I think Disney is hoping to get it out as soon as it can while it's still relatively fresh on people minds, that way they can hopefully get people who didn't want to go see it in the theatres to watch it at home.

    Default Back to Barsoom!

Hi. I loved the movie too. Iīve seen it 9 times. It was refreshing, filled with adventure, humor, romance. It reminded me of old-fashioned adventure movies in the most positive aspect. A female lead in a blockbuster who looks gorgeus and act!. Lynn Collins will be Dejah Thoris forever.

About 3D edition..I donīt appreciate them so much nowadays. Tiring. 2D edition will be great anyway. I really crave for extras.

About Disney.....worst marketing ever. Too much secrecy. I remember 10 years ago seeing Lord Of the Rings trailers 1 year before the opening. I loved the trailers (yes, even the 1st), but adding the words "Pixar","Tarzan"...wouldnīt have hurt either. Worst thing is I honestly think most people would enjoy the movie given a fair chance. How many of you have read reviews of Transformers? Did U care about them?
About the money....did you pay any dollar to make the movie? Isnīt it good news when all the money is put into screen instead of the pocket of a movie star? I believed those ships could really sail on light.

If JohnCarter fans read my humble opinion.....google "Take me back to Barsoom" and join more John Carter fans and help for a sequel!

Happy birthday, Lynn Collins, regent of Helium, princess of Mars! 05-16-2012
