Thanks for the review. This is the first one online I've seen. I've already ordered both 3D Blu and DVD copies. Having not seen the movie in the theater (it was in very limited release) it's nice to see a decent rating all around for both movie and vid/audio quality. Most critics seemed harsh on both script and animation. I"m not expecting Disney...though it sounds like a fine product from a low budget studio. The film was actually completed 2D-only in late 2008...and due to a delayed release date the studio/animators were able to re-render a stereoscopic 3D version just as 3D cinema was burgeoning. This is probably why as the reviewer states the 3D is inconsistent (flat and 2D in parts.) See http://www.techsmart.co.za/features/...ion_movie.html . Look forward to watching in 3D this weekend.

Michael Madsen? He has a tendency to make the headlines with sometimes questionable behaviour. Sounds like the perfect voice for a sweet and inspirational tale about faith and religion!

LOL it is hilarious! It's almost as funny as the Nick Nolte one.

This isn't the first time Michael Madsen has been in a Christian film. Even Edward Furlong was in a Christian film. I think that it's perfectly fine to cast somebody in your films if they are professional during shooting. It's not like the filmmakers are encouraging poor behavior.

Thanks M. Enois Duarte for a very good review. Even though you only gave this movie a 2.5 star rating for the movie itself, I enjoyed your in-depth review and thought it was a very fair review.

“Although I'm not the target audience, I can appreciate the work that went into the making of 'The Lion of Judah' and can imagine the little tykes in the family enjoying it for what it is. Featuring the voices of Ernest Borgnine and Michael Madsen, the story is a re-imagining of the Easter story with a small band of stable mates witnessing the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. The 3D Blu-ray arrives with a very good picture quality and an equally good audio presentation. The one, lone supplement is a forgettable piece, making the package overall an average release that fans will find satisfying. “ -

I waited until after I watched this movie (this afternoon) to read this review. Else, I would have purposely tried to find the flaws the reviewers (by reviewers, I'm talking reviews of different movies, not just this one) talk about. It's now my own official rule to not read reviews on movies I've already pre-ordered or plan to purchase and only read reviews on movies I'm unsure about. Since I have a very eclectic taste in movies, it sometimes pays not to listen to the majority.
Here is my short take on the movie. The beginning of the movie really set it up to be fast-paced, fun, and hilariously funny. The crazy chicken, the horse that faints all of the time, and the pig that farted near the horse's head in lieu of 'smelling' salts were all pretty funny. It does seem to slow down a bit afterward though. If it would have kept the same pace from beginning to end, it would have been an easy 5 star rating for me.
Both the animation and depth were better than I anticipated. Compared to the last animated 3D flick I watched, Tin Tin, which had very subtle depth and seemed more 2D than 3D, the depth on this film seemed at times a lot better.
In the audio department, the only two complaints I have is #1: many of the background/sound effects are generic, stuff we've heard since probably the 60s or 70s. Number two is the fact that some of the songs just seem to come out of nowhere and really don't match the volume of the movie quite as good as even a lot of low-budget indie blockbusters do. Some of the songs are just too loud. It needed some help in the mixing and mastering department. In its defense, dialogue was crisp and clear throughout, something I can't say for many of the big-budget films today.
If this movie was being compared to Hollywood blockbusters, I'd personally keep the reviewer's video score the same, change the movie itself to 3 stars instead of 2.5, and bring the audio score from 3.5 down to 2.5 stars. However, since this is the first 3D Christian flick, it deserves an overall grade of four stars to its target audience. It's too bad 'the miracle maker' didn't come out in 3D!
