Put me down as one who thought it was mediocre. Uninteresting hero, mediocre villian, etc.
I'm amazed two sites have it as 4.5 and 5 out of 5. -

I saw yesterday this movie. It is weak, bad actors, no emotions at all. The video is soft, and has not deep. Just look like an excellent DVD. I CAN'T understand how it received 4,5 stars for PQ. If Blu-rays go in this way ...

Personally I hate Johnston films, even the wolfman sucks in very bad way.

I didn't mind The Wolfman. Aside from that, The Rocketeer's the only thing on his CV, that I can even remotely remember enjoying.

Wasn't impressed by the transfer on this at all. Reminded of Thor, except that Thor actually had scenes that looked vibrant and film-like, but Cap has none of that. It looks like bland, flat HD video. Are they DNR'ing these movies, to aid the 3D conversion process, when they create the digital intermediate, or possibly to match HD shot footage, with 35MM film footage?

Can anyone tell me if there is any difference between the US Region A version and the UK Region B version. Im mainly thinking in terms of PQ and AQ but if the extras are different too, that might persuade me to wait the extra week and a half and order it from the US.

I was just scrutinizing this BD a bit yesterday and for the most part it actually has a very, very fine grain structure that might not be very visible at normal viewing distance. It also has some tremendous detail in some scenes (some of the trees in the backgrounds have the most minute foliage details for example).
I think most of the "flat" comments are probably related to the incredibly dreary color palette used for the film. I can only assume the color timing was chosen to contrast the 40s time period. Not sure I agree with that decision, considering how films like Indian Jones convey the 30s just fine without color timing tricks. But there it is. -

FINALLY saw this film... its just one of those movies I never got around to seeing. It was fairly decent, not brilliant, but pretty solid entertainment. Exactly what I've come to expect from Joe Johnston. As ILM's first VFX art director, Johnston, along with Ralph McQuarrie, was perhaps the most important person responsible for the look and the atmosphere of the original Star Wars trilogy. The same goes for Raiders of The Lost Ark. This legacy definitely comes across in the films he has directed. Except Jurassic Park III but nobody really expected that to be good, did they? Anyway - Captain America - visually stunning, narratively engaging - good time at the movies all round.
