TOS broke continuity itself. Stardates were randomly thrown around, story did not flow from one episode to the next. As for The Cage, pretty much any story there was thrown out the window when NBC didn't buy that pilot.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_Star_Trek has a timeline. The events of Enterprise happens right before the Earth / Romulin wars, and is followed by the formation of the federation. The ONLY thing that Enterprise breaks in continuity is that it is stated in TOS that the Romulin wars were fought without the use of visual ship-to-ship communication, although you could argue that Earth had it, and the Romulins did not.
The NX-01 could do Warp 5. NCC-1701 could do warp 8. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Ent...%28NCC-1701%29
Enterprise didn't kill the francise. The failure of UPN killed the francise. -

There were 4 seasons.

Seasons 1-3 were filmed on 35 mm and transferred to digital for broadcast; season 4 was shot/produced entirely digitally in 1080i. At least that's what MA says.

You are right. Somehow I had it in my mind that TOS and Enterprise ran the same length of time, even though I have seen every single episode of Enterprise a half-dozen times (its my favorite series).
I knew that at least the first season was done on 35mm, but the point is, whether filmed on 35mm or sot at 1080i, the entire series has always been in HD. -

Quite true. While Enterprise had a few missteps like the awful theme song, it was still a great show. Lots of good episodes scattered around the first 3 seasons, and several lovable characters. Then season 4, with all the tie-ins to Star Trek continuity, was just fantastic. It's a shame some people were too turned off by the show's different direction/slow warmup to stick through till then.

I remember when Enterprise first aired and I just didn't have time to watch it, and then it seemed to get moved all over the schedule and I just basically missed the whole thing. Now, 10 years later, I've been streaming the entire show (about a third through Season 4 now) through netflix/amazon and I think its absolutely top tier. There are several story arcs and multi-part episodes that are better than the average Trek movie. Just amazing writing and production, I really wish there was another 4 seasons to watch

He meant from a continuity standpoint. Very few episodes in TOS relate to each other, star dates are kinda random, and it doesn't build up to anything. Whereas newer Trek shows have serialized story arcs, so they can tell more elaborate stories. But you're right, the stories in TOS (the first 2 seasons, anyway) hold up very well.

I recall when the laserdiscs of TOS were released they had Episode numbers and Air Dates. The Air Dates were not in order of episode numbers and this might be the source of the complaints as well as mixed up stardates.
No, regarding continuity, I was referring to what we know about the Trek Universe. I think someone inserted "Enterprise" into a timeline after the fact. I still stand by my comment about The Cage/The Menagerie and the warp engines comment. I watched Enterprise after it was canceled, I liked it for the most part.
Back on topic though. The TNG disc mentioned by this thread, bah, the seasons though, will preorder them the day they're announced. -

I really enjoyed watching Enterprise through netflix. I rented seasons 2-4 on disc way before they were available for streaming. My wife would comment every time she caught me watching the show, "what a horrible theme song!". I really wish they would've changed it. The only time we ever got a break from it was for the 2 part "Mirrior Mirrior" episode - my favorite. I also really like the borg episode.
I own season 1 on DVD. I would gladly buy seasons 2-4 on blu-ray if the price is right. The annoying thing about all of the Star Trek series is how they are initially $100 per season.... ridiculous. Wonder how high they will price the TNG seasons on bd. -

The fact that TOS episodes were standalone and do not have a serialized story arc is not necessarily a continuity issue. The random Stardates are a minor continuity issue at most. Other than that, the episode stories do not contradict one another.
The entire premise of Enterprise, however, directly contradicts Star Trek story information from TOS, TNG and the movies.Josh Z

Franchise continuity aside, I quite liked the Enterprise pilot episode. However, the show took an immediate nose dive after that. It seemed like the show had five or six episodes in row where the characters got trapped in caves. That seemed to be the only plot the writers could come up with, over and over again. I lost interest really quickly and dumped the show halfway through the first season.
I kept hearing that the series got a lot better, so I tuned in to a random episode in Season 4, which was supposedly the show's best season. What was the episode about? Yup, the characters were trapped in a cave again!
