Wonder if we'll get lossless with this version? I hope so.
Steve Zissou: Anne-Marie, do all the interns get Glocks?
Anne-Marie Sakowitz: No, they all share one.

Hmmm...Really wanted to get this awhile back, but heard some not so great things about image quality (which i think is probably due to the original shoot and not the transfer or anything). Plus I was waiting to find the trilogy for like 20 or 30 bucks new, so I still have yet to get it. Wonder if this is really worth picking up or not. I originally saw them all on Netflix, so im assuming the blu's are probably at least a little better than that

Yes, I believe the second and third film were shot in 16mm so the quality will never be amazing.

Yeah, I've seen all the movies and have them on BD so I doubt I'll repurchase.

Anyone know exactly how "extended" these versions are? Is it a couple minutes or something more substantial?

I have no idea, but I really doubt it's going to change the overall complexion of the movie if you've already seen it. I'm sure it's a good reason to get it if you don't already own it, but otherwise, just as good to see on Netflix at a later date.

The extended versions are approximately 180 minutes, adding 25-35 minutes to each film.

YES! I've been waiting for this. For all those confused, the deal with the Dragon Tattoo Trilogy is that it was originally made in Sweden as a 6-part miniseries - each book was adapted into a pair of 90-min episodes, with only the first two eps (which adapted The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) being planned for a theatrical release as well, which is why it had a higher budget. Following its massive success, the rest of the miniseries got the same theatrical treatment, even though they hadn't been made with that in mind, therefore the lower budgets. Since 3-hour movies weren't really feasible, they were severely cut down for theatrical release, resulting in, as the press release says, about 2 hours worth of material cut from the whole 9-hour miniseries. So this should give the films considerably more depth.

Here is a detailed comparison of the original miniseries vs the theatrical films:

Personally, I wish we were getting the miniseries, with its awesome opening credits and 16:9 aspect ratio rather than just extended versions of the films.

    Finally got my Samsung LN32A550P1F.

27 Blu-rays - Favourites include Firefly, Serenity and The Dark Knight.

Is this thread titled incorrectly? Are we getting three Dragon movies or three Stieg Larsson movies? (aka Millennium Trilogy)

That's something substantial then. Hmm... interesting.
