'Conan the Barbarian' - High-Def Digest Review
E has reviewed the original 'Conan the Barbarian.' He says this epic swords-and-sorcery film is still a lot of fun. Fans should be happy with this Blu-ray, which features exceptional video and audio. Extras are thorough, with a few new format exclusives. The best the movie has ever looked. Recommended.

so is this indeed an extended cut or not? it seems its been back and forth with that one.
i'm getting it regardless but am just curious as i've never seen the extended. and man, after practically a lifetime of only seeing this on tv....the blu-ray will be a revelation since it wont be cut for time or edited for content and a shiny picture to boot. lol -

From the review:
"This edition of John Milius' action epic is the original 129-minute theatrical version, so fans hoping to have the same 130-minute cut seen on the collector's DVD may want to hold on to that set."
Thank god it's the theatrical cut. I do wish the review would mention if the deleted scenes were the ones from the extended cut.

Is it just the addition of a 1 min scene, or were there edit changes too? Was not aware of a different cut. I had the Conan double set dvd too. Now wondering which version I had.
Now I just need a Red Sonja blu release and watch all 3 back to back to back. And I know he's not "Conan" in RS, but lets face it, he was. -

The extended cut features two things that I can say for sure:
- A longer version of the battle at the mounds (a quiet moment where Conan reminiscences about the wind, I believe).
- An ending where he carries the princess away. The Mako narration is different, implying a new Conan movie about him being king).
It's not nearly as bad as some extended versions, e.g. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, but I think the ending seems very off with the new footage.

typing from so phone, so I can't accurately verify this. but I believe there are several cut made since initial release. a 90-something minute cut for TV and an edited 123-minute version. the extended cut adds just over a minute of footage to the theatrical 129 original which someone above already mentioned, nothing really substantial. again, going off memory, someone will have to verify.

Movies are so rarely great art that if we cannot appreciate great trash.
we have very little reason to be interested in them.

I was already going to buy this day one, but this review just got me even more excited for this release. I can't wait to hear the Basil Poledouris score in high def, to me it's one of the best scores in any movie.. Oh... and the lamentation of the women.

Pass. These movies are nothing like Robert E Howard's works.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels like that. The movie is good on its own, but the score makes this a great film. A lot of movies fail to realize that a great score will make the movie unforgetable. It's a shame that Basil never was able to match this masterpiece.
