And if Pelham 123 is "atrocious" (I haven't even seen it so I'm not personally offended) what is genocide in Cambodia? FUCKING atrocious? LOL

This is more of a cue from Louis CK than an actual criticism of you, I just get tired of extreme hyperbole on the internet. Avatar is an ATROCITY. So Japanese internment camps were... A SUPER ATROCITY.

Now forget my extreme non-movie related example. If a Scott movie can be "atrocious" where does that leave "18 Year Old Virgin"... "The Hottie and The Nottie"... "Epic Movie"? I just can't think of any words to truly describe how bad a movie is if we're wasting "atrocity" on Avatar, you feel me? :P

    Good point.

Or, even to 'tone down' your frame of reference a bit: I'd like to know what the 'reference action movies' are for some of the people like Cheez/others saying Man on Fire, Pelham, Top Gun, etc are terrible.

I mean, are they still 'in' the thread? Are they actually fans of some Scott movies, are did they come to the thread to deny the thread itself and intend to be 'taking a dump' on the Scotts'? --Which, of course is their right to do so. However, it's a bit disingenuous if they say that "xxxx sucks", crap, & run .... meanwhile neglecting to mention that their idea of a satisfying, awesome action movie is Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Not the fault of Ridley but here in eastern Canada it is still quite difficult to find a copy of the remastered Gladiator. Does anyone know of a "guaranteed to have the latest version" source either a retail store or online? Just a couple of weeks ago I heard of someone who ordered from an online site and got the older version. Any help is appreciated.

This has been grinding my gears so badly for so long now!

I'm in western Canada and it's the same here. Since it wasn't a forced recall like SPR, it seems like they are just keeping their crappy copies on shelves and fleecing viewers. I don't see them cycling through copies though because people who planned to buy it have already bought it, and the discerning BD fan who pays attention knows that those copies are bad.

I mean I don't see any yellow UPCs on any of them anyway, so I'm assuming that they aren't new, they look identical to the one I bought.

I'm totally willing to throw down another 30 bucks on a good 4k Scott approved transfer and take care of my product exchange later (I hate snail mail so much), I just want to know I'm not buying the same goddamned disc again.

I'd love some clarification on this but I doubt we get any from here or elsewhere.

    Hi Reidw --

I'm not sure if this will help you in Canada, but you may want to try calling Paramount directly at the number they set up for inquiries: 323-956-3010. Sadly, I've only read about specific mailing addresses for U.S. and U.K. exchange programs.

Also, here are a few extra hints about figuring out which BD of Gladiator you've received because, as it turns out, some of the first remastered discs did NOT feature a YELLOW UPC sticker. The other clues are as follows:

-The top of the case for the new remastered Blu-ray doesn't have the typical white security sticker.

-The cardboard sleeve on the back is missing the text "2-DISC SET" above the Paramount logo in the bottom right corner.

    Good luck, Northern Reader!

All you people dissing on 'Top Gun' better stop it. It's one of the best homoerotic action movies out there.

Oh that's awesome, I will check out the "2 DISC SET" to verify it and possibly pick a new copy up later. Thanks for the info.

From the fact that he was terribly miscast in that movie.

    :-)

Nothing can take away how well done the aerial scenes were filmed and put together. Nominated for the Academy Award for Best Editing and well deserved. If not for going against both Platoon AND Aliens had a very good chance of being recognized. By contrast, just try and follow the action in "Iron Eagle".

The list in the story could probably be expanded to 15-20 and still do them justice. A couple movies I liked that I haven't seen mentioned in this thread are GI Jane and Body of Lies.

edit- just noticed BoL in Pg 1

I think it's worth mentioning, considering the enthusiast audience here, that the Man on Fire region free UK import comes with all the extras.
