'Death Race 2' - High-Def Digest Review
Nate has reviewed 'Death Race 2.' He kinda enjoyed this direct-to-video prequel-sequel of a remake once it hit its stride. The Blu-ray features some pretty solid video and audio, and a few extras, including a very enthusiastic audio commentary. Worth a look!

since the pages use the same URL, sometimes it takes a minute for a review to go live, as it is linked to the forum and needs that unique id (this thread's URL). happens with every review we do =)

Don't usually go for the DTV stuff but maybe in this case.
Also, I actually liked the Death Race remake but then again I like Statham and the Transporter flicks a lot. Prolly helped that I hadn't yet seen DR2000 and even now that I have I can enjoy both separately. -

i've always felt that if you see the remake first, you'll enjoy it more than anyone who has grown accustomed to an original version. there's no comparing, no distractions, and no disappointment when favorite characters, scenes, or ideas get the axe. a bad remake, sadly, can kill the desire for some people to even want to see the original. *ahem manchurian candidate ahem*

I loved the 2008 version too. Therefore, I blind bought Death Race 2 on Day 1.

I loved the 2008 version as well. Looking forward to checking this one out but not worth the price new I would guess. I can wait.

I've heard nothing but good things about this movie, considering the fact that it is DTV. I'll have to pick this up when it hits the right price

I really enjoyed the 2008 version. It's great fun, in a "Turn the Shawshank Redemption into a violent car-chase action movie" kind of way.
The original is fun, and does a lot of things that you couldn't get away with in a modern movie (Certainly not a big budget one). But it is really a bad movie in so many ways, as well. There's no getting around that. So constantly bashing the remake for not doing what the original did, is kind of unfair. They're very different movies.
Might give Death Race 2 a rental, and see if it's fun!

I didn't care for the first one, so I think I'll pass.

Whatever happened to gratuitous nudity? It's not like this is a children's movie, so I don't get why we've moved away from having some nudity added into these cheesy action flicks. If it had some I'd probably rent it, but I doubt I will having seen the 2008 version. I TOTALLY agree the mario-kart rollover powerups are completely stupid and the whole tv broadcast concept is done so horribly I can't get over it. These are worse than fast and the furious movies.

I really liked Death Race 2008. Looks like I'm not alone. I'm well aware that it's a cheesy B movie, but I really liked it in spite of that. It's one of those cases where you manage your expectations and the movie doesn't have too much to live up to. It was brisk, entertaining, had some funny performances and fairly memorable action sequences.
I can't imagine liking the knock-off DTV one better, but possibly I'll take a look. Maybe.
Death Race (2008) reminded me a lot of The Running Man, one of my favorite Schwarzenegger flicks.
