    Default '24: Season 8' - High-Def Digest Review

Aaron Peck, HDD's resident '24' expert, has reviewed '24: Season 8.' He says these season was a hoot. If you have drinking games for this final run, please share them. This Blu-ray features crumby video (Fox squished the season onto only 4 discs this time, perhaps that's why they didn't send us a review copy!) Audio is fantastic. Extras are embarrassingly skimpy. Loosen the purse string, Rupert! This is for fans only!

This season was tough, some of it was the worst 24 has ever been, and some of it was possibly the best it has ever been.
    Spoiler:
It was awesome to see Jack finally snap, I always hoped that Kiefer would leave the show that way, originally I thought he might lose it and Tony and CTU would come after him and bring him down (that kind of gives you an idea of how long ago I thought the formula had gotten stale), although they kind of pussed out at the end with the Hollywood ending and Jack redeeming himself, I would have hoped for something darker considering how season one ended in such a down note. It seemed very much though like the writers found out halfway through the season that the series was canceled and had to come up with some half-assed way to make Jack go crazy. I never believed that Jack would lose it over a chick he met for one day last season, it made absolutely no sense that the same president who was so squeaky clean and anti-torture last season would completely change her stance on the advice of pretty much the most untrustworthy character in the entire show, etc. People were changing character faster than Anakin Skywalker. Also I pretty much hated every character other than Jack and Chloe. Even with all that though, pretty much everything Jack did during the second half of the season, especially the tunnel scene was better than anything else on television over the last few years.

    "That's Jack Bauer!!"
    RIP Kosty you are missed.

OMG, there was another mole in CTU?

And Katee Sackhoff, poor woman seems to be typecast as an annoying character.

Also, how was Freddy Prinze? Did he keep the promise he made after scooby doo that he wouldn't act anymore?

Are you implying that he ever "acted" in the first place?

You nailed it. The season started out on a really bad foot with one of the worst, most idiotic storylines in the show's history. Then for 3-4 episodes near the end things picked up in a big way, and it seemed like the show might actually redeem itself... until the immensely LAAAAAAME season finale, which was clearly not in any way written to be the series' final episode.

This show should have gone out on a high note after Season 5. Everything afterwards has been crap.

I still liked the show after season 5. Like I said, it had become a parody of itself. Plus if you stopped watching after season five you missed Jack Bauer and his vampire bite. LOST BOYS FOREVER!

The review doesn't mention if the spoilers featured in the UK edition are present on the menu screen if choosing to watch episodes individually.

Can you check this out please.

What do you mean by spoilers?

There are clips from the show shown in the background which I didn't think were all that spoilerish. Also there are synopsis for each episode that you don't have to read, but I didn't think they revealed all that much.

Couldn't be any more spoilerish than Nina showing up early in the season 2 DVD menus. It felt like they were punishing me for waiting for the DVDs.

Season 7 was pretty great, but the show's quality as a whole became very inconsistent after season 5.

    Vampire Jack!

The first four episodes of Season 6 were INCREDIBLE. Then it went downhill

Lame, indeed. I had tears in my eyes because I realized that THIS is how they were going to end it.

I stopped watching this after maybe 8 or 9 episodes. Then I wished I did not stop when they announced it was the last season. I will pick this up when goes on the cheap.
