Default TrueHD to make Blu-ray debut

Quote:
Bringing both classic jazz and Dolby TrueHD to Blu-ray for the first time, indie music distributor LRS Media is set to debut their premiere next-gen disc release with 'Legends of Jazz Showcase.'

Due in stores on October 24, 'Legends of Jazz' brings together jazz icons including Al Jarreau, Chick Corea, Chris Botti and host Ramsey Lewis for 13 classic performances.

LRS will be putting their best foot forward for their maiden release, delivering a 1080p/MPEG-2 video transfer and no less than three soundtrack options, in Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital 5.1 and uncompressed PCM 2.0 stereo.

"In Europe, consumers will receive a complimentary copy of LEGENDS OF JAZZ “SHOWCASE” on Blu-ray Disc with the purchase of any cutting edge Samsung Blu-ray player.

Craig Eggers, Senior Partner Marketing of Dolby Laboratories, comments, “In many circles, Jazz is regarded as the crowning achievement of musicianship and musical performance. In much the same way, playback of music videos, and movie tracks on Blu-ray software are equally transformed by Dolby TrueHD lossless audio technology. With 5.1 channel Dolby TrueHD, the music enthusiast can enjoy - in their home - the full essence of the entire performance, just as it happened on the stage, concert hall or in the studio. Every nuance of this extraordinary musicianship is captured. Nothing is lost. Dolby TrueHD audio recreates the entire performance, just as it happened."

Why has Warner been neglecting TrueHD for Blu-Ray. So far Training Day and the upcoming Phantom of the Opera have both dropped the TrueHD soundtracks found on the HD-DVD versions. Superman Returns has confirmed TrueHD for the HD-DVD combo version but not for the Blu-Ray version. Though it has not been confirmed that the Blu-Ray version will lack TrueHD the lack of an announcement is not a good sign. I am really hoping for a TrueHD version simply because the lack of one would be so inexcusable given that the disc is a BD-50.
