isn't this new edition just a 1 discer, much like Wal-Mart's 1 disc Exorcist?

Yeah. Single disc; digibook has the SmileBox version on disc 2. It may be a novelty but it's a cool one. This repackage will still have the commentary and cinerama doc though which were always on disc 1
