Pleasantville is coming to Blu-Ray Feb. 1
“Pleasantville”
In the black-and-white ’50s sitcom realm of “Pleasantville,” mom always has a yummy meatloaf in the oven, the home team never loses and romance is a shy peck on the cheek. Until now. Because modern, real-life teens David (Tobey Maguire) and Jennifer (Reese Witherspoon) are mysteriously zapped into that TV world, and with them come ideas and passions that turn the town’s cozy perfection into something more challenging and colorful. From Gary Ross (“Big,” “Seabiscuit”) comes an imaginative fantasy that maintains its humor even as it reveals its own true colors about embracing life in all its messiness and unpredictability. Don’t touch that dial. Stay tuned to life in “Pleasantville.”

· Commentary by Writer/Director Gary Ross

I'm a big fan of Pleasantville. Man, Warner has been hitting it out of the park when it comes to my catalog wants lately. In particular I'm very happy to see announcements for Once Upon a Time in America, The Player, and Pleasantville on Blu-Ray. They are easily my favorite studio based on release list.

One of my favorite movies. It's also nice to see that Tobey Maguire used to be able to act. I never liked his Spider-Man performances but he was great in Pleasantville.

I loved this movie, I remember I watched it a bunch of times when it used be on TNT seemingly non-stop. Cannot wait to revisit it in HD

Saw this in school this year and I hated it. It was interesting but then it became lame, cliche and stupid towards the end and not to mention overly predictable. I just wanted to walk out of class. Tobey was good though and William H. Macy.

I want to be excited and hope this looks phenomonal. I'm going to be skeptical, not directed at WB here but I'm just worried it might have been lower budget and end up with the shots looking soft a la "Pitch Black".
If that's not the case and some real money was put into the shots THEN I'm not worried.HD DVD, the best in extras!
My HD DVD list: "Clerks 2", "The World's Fastest Indian", "The Thing", "V For Vendetta", "Enter the Dragon" and "Casablanca".
My Blu-ray list: "Warriors Of Heaven and Earth", "Curse Of the Golden Flower", "Kung Fu Hustle", Weeds Season 2, "Rent", "Tekkonkinkreet",
"Lives Of Others", "Black Book", "Hairspray", "Kingdom Of Heaven: Director's Cut", Sanctuary S1, "Chungking Express", "Videodrome", "Contact", "Paprika". -

WOOHOO!!! I have been waiting for this announcement since the early days of Blu-ray. Fingers crossed for a decent encode!
Oh, and I fully agree with eastx about Tobes... Spiderman and its subsequent sequels were the kiss of death for his credibility as a talented actor!
