I'll pick this up for sure, despite being dissatisfied with certain aspects of the series.

i'm in sort of the same boat. i watch little cable now that my movie watching percentahe has become so high but i don't have any premium channels because they're too much $$$. if i wana watch an HBO series, i hit up the library, but if it's a miniseries that's connected with pretty much the best miniseries ever then i'm down for blind buy. not day 1, but still a buy.

It's a good/great series, but I strongly recommend tempering your expectations from Band of Brothers. Only one episode hits the BoB quality. But it's still a very good series.

Eh I didn't bother to finish it even though i should. What annoys me is, the acting is mediocre, 90% of the characters look the same and it's hard to identify them and there names. Especially when two of them are Johns! and the action sequences are bland.

The problem for me wasn't even a lack of action thing, it was the characters that they chose to follow. With BOB you cared for the guys like 5 minutes into the first episode. With this thing they jumped all around, which can be fine sometimes, but in this case it caused me to not really connect with anybody. On top of this a lot of the characters, even some of the main 3, come off as really unappealing.
I kind of have to get it, but the more I think about it that initial price is looking kind of steep for this one. -

Sweet! Being released in time for Best Buy's annual 50% off all HBO original programming, which usually happens a week or two before Christmas.

I found it a bit choppy at first as well and thought it was hard to remember who was who. I decided to keep watching though and by the end, I was SO glad I did. I recorded every episode and I'm finding it much more enjoyable the second time through, because now I am familiar with the characters.
This is a must have on
. The special features alone will make it worth the buy and I think the series stands up against BoB pretty well.

Yeah its certainly worth the money as long as that msrp gets at least cut in half. I just threw out my recordings of them so I'll have to buy it, even now I can sense it being better with repeat viewings.

Too many battles take place in the dark. Too much time spent away from the action. Final episode was a huge boring letdown. Will not be buying this.

How much you like this series will depend on how much you expect it to be like Band of Brothers... the less the better.
It's not bad, but it's not Band of Brothers with coconut trees either.
Also... unlike Band of Brothers, the primary source books (Helmet For My Pillow and With The Old Breed) are excellent.
