No, in "Taken" Liam Neeson is an ex-CIA op who rescues his daughter from the baddies (she survives). Perhaps you're thinking of "Edge of Darkness" which stars Mel Gibson as a detective and avenging father of his murdered daughter? Both movies are well done, with leading actors that carry the movie from start to finish.
