Default 'Black Snake Moan' - High-Def Digest review

Just posted Kenneth's rview of 'Black Snake Moan' on Blu-ray. This one looks to be a real winner, feturing a 5-star video transfer, impressive audio, and a nice set of supplements.

Band, by the way, it is 640kbps, not 650. Looks like the paramount DTS-HD run is over, and they seem to be reverting to their old ways in terms of BD, downscaling the audio from DD+1.5mbps to DD 640kbps. This is inexcusable Paramount, why must you do this??? You are just prolonging the way by giving HD DVD people more ammunition against BD.

Paramount must think that the vast majority of blu-ray people are hearing impaired. The fact that they give us subpar audio most of the time cannot be explained otherwise. I am really wondering why they are not bringing the bitrate down to 384 kbps which is abolutely sufficient to support six channels and quality doesn't seem to be a concern when they are bringing films to blu-ray. I was looking forward to this release because I heard good things about the movie but now I am a lot less enthusiastic. At least, the image quality is on par and should be good according to the review.

I just rented The Standard DVD and I was surprised at how much I liked the movie it was one of the best movies I have seen in a while. It had a surprisingly good plot more than meets the eye and the Performances from Christina Ricci and Sam Jackson were some of the best of their careers. I just ordered the blu-ray and SD DVD today with a bunch of other Blu-rays it shouldbe here by friday. I cant wait I hear the PQ on The Blu-ray is as good as the review says it is comparing it to pirates is always good.

I was at the local video rental store over the weekend and they had about 20 copies of this movie on DVD all rented out. It's catching a much deserved second wind.

I'm interested in this movie but not quite confident enough in it to blind-buy it. I will rent the SDVD in the next while and if I liek it I wil pick it up on BD.

I know this is an old thread, but does anyone know why this title was discontinued by the studio? Did they go blu-only? Any idea's when they will be re-releasing it on bluray?

I just sold the last of my HD-DVDs, and that was included. I had hoped to use the money to rebuy it, but its gone.
