I thought I just have the PS3 forward the signal to the receiver, but I'll have to check that setting again. It's been awhile since I've messed with the audio settings.
How do you have the PS3 connected to the receiver? Is it the PS3 Slim or the original version?

    It's the launch 60GB PS3.

The 60GB will send out PCM. The PS3 will have to decode it. It does not support bitstreaming on the Lossless audio. The newer Slims do, however.

Yeah, that's what I seem to remember, and my Denon 3806 handles PCM for sure. I'm not sure what would cause it to have problems in one case and not others, except maybe a disk issue of some kind.

Just watched Surrogates last night with no audio issues, and was pretty much the same MA type track, except TrueHD I believe.

My best guess is that there may be an authoring issue with this disc that causes the PS3 to trip up when decoding the soundtrack. I bitstream from my OPPO player, and didn't have any issues.

Yeah, a friend has been trying to talk me into getting one but I haven't made the jump yet.

Even though I´d say "Dune" is not as bad as many make it to be, I´d say it is clearly a low-average Sci Fi movie. The story is bad, the acting is silly and the visuals are average. I can perfectly understand that David Lynch does not want to remember he made this movie at all.

There are certainly a lot worse movies out there...But how anyone can rate this movie higher than 2 stars is beyond me. I think 2 stars would be the perfect rating: Not the worst thing in the world but certainly below average.

Why is the extended version so bad? You called it "wretched". Is the extra footage really that bad?

I haven't seen the extended version, but I did see a fan edit that used footage from it and it seemed to make more sense to me and more complete than what I remembered from the first time I saw it (years ago).

It's no so much the extra footage (that Lynch shot) itself that's bad. The problem is that the people who assembled the official extended version (not talking about any fan edits) were totally incompetent. They inserted storyboard art as "special effects," repeat shots over and over again to an embarrassing extent, replaced all of Princess Irulan's voiceover narration with a new male narrator who mispronounces half the terminology and character names, and tried to cobble together brand new scenes using only shots stolen from other (unrelated) scenes that we've already seen. Countless scenes are cut together with mis-matched footage. It's laughably bad.

Ah, I see. I guess there's not much chance of a super duper Director's extended version either, given Lynch's disassociation with the film.

No, Lynch only ever completed the one cut of the film, and won't have anything more to do with it.
