I swear I saw a reference to Streets of Fire getting a Blu release in September but can't track it down.

FWIW Tracked it down dvdnewsflash on wordpress.com 09/04 rumored release.

Erin Brockovich, Scent of a Woman, Sea of Love, Smokey and the Bandit, and The Sting all now available on Blu-ray disc no longer HD DVD exclusive! Also went ahead and removed Being John Malkovich since Criterion version was released in mid-May.

If we have a BLUNDERS thread, part 3, can we possible mention the fact that HD DVD has been a discontinued format for how long? And we still are not caught up?

If it's any consolation, Blu-ray hasn't caught up with D-VHS either, and I think that format has been discontinued longer. And of the 26 major studio movies exclusive to that HD format, half are from Universal.

Truth be told, Universal really doesn't give shit about a few people wanting to shed their red cases for blue, or for whatever odd reason (like just being rankled that HD DVD still has exclusives). It's business and they'll give their whole catalog equal consideration and not give priority to those already released on deceased formats.

You make it sound like everyone has these movies in red cases. There's people that sat on the fence then there's people that went blu from the start. Lots of people. Since most of their blu catch-up releases are almost zero effort (no new encodes or transfers) what's their problem?

In a word...sales. Other than tent pole titles, sales of catalog movies generally suck for Blu-ray. So I would blame consumer indifference rather than the studios for the slow output of catalogs (which so far is about 1/3 the rate that DVD was). Considering the size of their library, Universal's output is on par with everyone elses, if anything it's slightly above average.

At first Universal was releasing almost everything that was already out on HD DVD. Now they're giving the rest of their library some due consideration as they start to get to the bottom of the barrel on the exclusives. Let's see, what should they release on Blu-ray first, Jurassic Park or The Jerk? Decisions, decisions...

Dukes of Hazzard. I recently traded that one in for $5 off another title when Best Buy had that promo going. Sells for 37 cents used on amazon. Don't think this will ever come out on Blu.

I originally bought it for the music video.
