"Hang 'Em High": May 11th
talk about a stunner.
"other" sites are reporting that MGM is releasing the classic 1968 Eastwood western on May 11th.
a dvd is also included, but hopefully it will be in a bd case.

That would be great, but what's the hold up on Josey Wales?

Great news. I've always liked Hang 'Em High, and will definitely add this - although The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly was always my favorite.
I loved The Outlaw Josey Wales, so I'd also be curious when that one is coming.Samsung BD-P1600

"Josey Wales" is a Warner release, and will no doubt be coming to bd before too long.
I can't wait for that one either.
I was really hoping it would get a release during the June Eastwood celebration, but it didn't get chosen for some reason.
Warner probably decided to save it for next year.Last edited by Arkadin; 03-27-2010 at 06:53 PM.

Yeah Ark, I had my fingers crossed I'd see it during the June Eastwood celebration too. Alas, such was not the case. Oh well, all good things come to those who wait, so they say...

Strange, I thought MGM was on it's death bed.

yeah, it is a little strange.
most likely this had already been finished some time ago, and it's just been sitting on a computer somewhere.
might as well release it and try to get a little money.
plus, Fox distributes the MGM titles so they have incentive to release it.
also: Even though they are bankrupt it's not like MGM is really going to just disappear off the face of the earth with their library in limbo forever.
they will survive in some form--most likely as a unit of Warner Brothers imo.
And if that happens Warner will, of course, be the studio releasing all their titles in the future. -

Mmm thanks much for the info Arkadin. This is one of my three favorite Eastwood westerns (Good, Bad & Ugly is another one).
I saw this in HD on (I think) MGM-HD channel not too long ago and it looked great in 1080i so I really am looking forward to getting it on blu.Keep classic films alive...buy them on Blu-ray! -

No review for this? This is a very underrated Western. I didn't even know it came out on Blu-ray. I'm probably going to buy it unless the disk is poor. Anyone have it ?

Review and screen captures:

Odd how this release has slipped under the radar and only one copy in my area.
Going by the screen captures, it looks good but not restored good. When dark clothes are against the sky I see a slight EE but that seems the only issue. Personally I would not pay more then $10 for this BD transfer. -

yeah this is a decent release.
not a disaster by any means.
print looks faded imo; but at least it isn't ruined by too much dnr.
some scenes look very nice.
