I put a spoiler tag on your post above just in case. I'm aware the movie is pretty graphic but wasn't aware of specific details. Anyway, I think France is the most likely central European country to pass it uncut. I can comment if those specifics appear to be intact after I have watched it and I have to receive it first as well

For me the director is the main draw for this film as I really like a lot of his work.

Mine finally arrived (Postal strikes were cancelled).

It's region free BUT it's states on the back that it is 1080i MPEG4 AVC. Also the run time says 120 mins, which isn't the case (it's 103 mins). I'm not able to confirm the resolution 100% at this moment. That being said, I am very impressed with the PQ.

It is UNCUT however. I've seen the film twice before and everything is as I remember it. Best not go into the details!

Can someone please verify if this is the case when they get the chance? I jumped the gun and went ahead and ordered it from amazon.fr (it shipped today). I'd like to know if I'm getting a disc I won't be able to play.

Thanks!

By the way, looks as if the trailers at the start are in PAL format. I didn't notice this on my tv, but when viewed through the projector there was a noticeable drop in resolution comparable to a standard dvd. Unfortunately I don't have a Blu Ray drive to run the necessary checks.

I'll verify the streams when I get mine, but unfortunately my package still hasn't arrived. Hopefully on Monday...

According to posts on blu-ray.com, the entire disc is 1080i...... grrrr

Looks like I'll be sending this back to Amazon.fr. Unless, someone here might like to purchase it......

Yeah, seems it's been confirmed to be 1080i50 then. Mine still hasn't arrived, much slower than usual deliveries from Amazon France...

I wonder why M6 Video released it that way, I don't know of any earlier release from them that would have been 1080i50.

You might also consider buying a player that can convert 1080i50 to 60hz, my LG BD370 is apparently doing that and it sure helps with many European imports and the PAL extras. It's a quite cheap player too.

Not a bad idea, thanks. I've been looking for one that handles the 50hz discs. I guess it's too much to hope/ask for to expect it to play Region B locked discs as well.....

I settled for one that's not region free for now, I keep doing region free backups when I need to though it takes some time and I have to buy blank discs for it. Luckily those are cheap enough here. Indeed a region free player that converts 50hz to 60hz would be ideal, but as long as I can't find one locally I'll stick to this solution.

Finally got my package from France, including Antichrist and OSS 117: Rio ne répond plus.

Antichrist has the following streams on the way to the movie:

- The Reader trailer (1080i50)
- The Chaser trailer (576i, i.e. SD PAL)
- Milk trailer (1080i50)
- M6 Video intro (1080i50)
- Copyright warning screen (1080i50)
- Movie (1080i50)

I'll do a BD Info scan next, will post here when it's ready.

As the movie's runtime according to IMDB is 104 minutes and on this disc it is 1:44:05, there doesn't seem to be any 24 fps => 25 fps speedup here. That would make the movie more than 4 minutes shorter. According to IMDB, the movie was shot with very high end digital HD cameras: Phantom HD Camera (extreme slow mo shots) and Red One Camera, so maybe they did a 25 fps transfer from the original digital source data without any speedup somehow.

My main concern with the 1080i50 presentation was that the movie might be running at PAL 4% "overspeed" in this version but that might not be the case then.

I ordered OSS 117: Rio ne répond plus as well, haha. How are the specs on that one? I know the first OSS 117 looked good....

Thanks!

For OSS 117, the main feature has 1080p / 23.976 fps AVC video in 2.35:1, and French DTS HD MA 5.1 (24-bit) audio + optional English and French HoH subs. There's also some secondary video PiP 480p AVC video stream. The disc seems to include some new type of iphone connectivity features, including "Remote SubTitle" which seems to allow some kind of subtitle positioning and placement control through iPhone. I don't have one of those so I couldn't really try those features out. The subs work in the usual way too.

As far as I could tell on my PC with quick checking, all the streams on the way to the menu and including the menu are in 1080p / 23.976 fps, and the disc is region free. There are many SD PAL and 1080i50 streams for the extras though. It was a bit harder to check than usual since Nero ShowTime that came with Nero 8 didn't play the disc through the BD Java loading screen, and I usually use that one to check the stream types for all the intros etc. as it's an easy way.

I already watched this movie and enjoyed it but I liked the first one better. This one had a lot of wordplay jokes that probably didn't translate too well into English. Still, it was very entertaining. PQ was decent, a bit stylized look. AQ was excellent.
