I think it's quite common for "normal people" here too to have intrest in anime/manga and some specific series, and I've got several colleaques at work who have collections of some small toy anime/manga characters at their desks at work though they are not that otaku-like otherwise.

Otaku can be used as a word to describe the most intense collectors and fans of this kind of stuff but it's not really a class of outcasts in such a literal sense in my opinion. It's a bit like the word "fanboy" or "nerd" or a combination of both, which is hard to define exactly...
Well, that would be me. Geek would be likely closer.

Yeah, geek is a good word for it In Japan it's kind of more common for people to develop geek-like interests in something than in many other countries I guess and the media feeds that kind of interests effectively.

Well speaking of expensive. "Fate: Stay/Night" the first season is over $400 on BR. It's something like $350 I've seen on HMV or maybe a bit lower.

This was supposed to be released on 23rd of December but that release date is no longer valid and a new one has not been announced yet, as far as I can figure out. It's now listed as upcoming releases with no known release date e.g. in Watch Impress release list and many shops that had listings for it don't have them anymore.

Yes Asia is usually highly reliable. I don't remember if they charge when they ship or when the pre-order is placed. Because the whole release is now postponed with no known new release date it might be better for you to order from some place that only charges when they ship as otherwise you'll be paying a lot immediately for something that has an unknown release date now.
