Default The Studio Canal Collection

I ordered four of these: Le Mepris, Belle De Jour, The Elephant Man and Ran. All but the last turned up today and the packaging is lovely -- the book covers feel really expensive and the booklets inside are full-colour with Criterion-esque information on the films.

Le Mepris and The Elephant Man are both listed on the back as Regions A and B compatible, but Belle De Jour is listed as B only.

Do they have the age advisory printed on the book cover? The product image on Amazon UK makes it look like they're not.

yeah there are individual threads on these.
I can't wait to see them.
If you can post some comments in the individual threads when you have had a chance to watch them.

The age ratings are on the shrink wrap on the front and on a removable piece of paper (lightly stuck on) with all the title info.

Size-wise are they the same as Warners DigiBooks? Any pics of them?

Fractionally thinner and a little bit shorter.

Just looking at Arkadin's link, the cases have changed and the discs no longer slide under a flap, but attach to a very good hub.

I mean it's just hard to believe that amazon is offering these right off the bat.
I mean I would have to think that at least 1 or 2 will be locked.
how are all these people going to play these titles if they are locked?
I mean you know some people that order these won't have a region B player.
I'm going to wait until they have verified stock.

Woah, at U.S prices, that's a much better deal than what was being quoted on Amazon UK. I was averaging 29-30 per title.

I pre-ordered two of these, so we'll see.

Pre-ordered all of them from Amazon.com except for Deer Hunter and The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum. It worked out to being about $2 more from Amazon, but it is worth it to get them shipped to me quicker via Prime.

They all seem to be about $2 less than on Amazon UK except for Deer Hunter and Ran, which are about $2 more.

Those price estimates take NY tax into account for those of us unfortunate enough to have to pay tax on Amazon purchases.

I will watch the film (for the first time ever) tonight, but I just had a quick look at a few scenes featuring Anthony Hopkins and it sounds fine to me -- his voice is its familiar self, not at all like a chipmunk. I would say that then that there are no pitch issues with The Elephant Man, but I will report back later if I pick anything up.

The picture looked quite good too, from the scenes I sampled.
