Yeah, it's expensive. Since Dack isn't going to be able to go ahead and do this, I wanted to offer this up for those who do want a copy:

There's a Power seller on eBay Italy with 1 remaining copy available. Price is 22.90 euro, with 5.50 shipping to the US, so total of 28.40 euro, which xe.com say is $41.80.

Link to listing

EDIT: Looks like we cleaned him out, all copies sold.

And, good news - he's saying this includes the collectible as the first run did. Down toward the bottom the description, he says:

Trailer
Il restauro
Testimonianze di Tonino Valeri, Franco Giraldi, Ennio Morricone
Interventi di Montaldo, Caiano, Baldi, Koch e tanti altri
(Frat)tagli(e) doppi
Le location e i set
Riproduzione di fotobuste e manifesti in formato cartolina
Volume brossurato di 48 pagine ricco di immagini, documenti e testimonianze
Riproduzione del soggetto originale del film firmato da Sergio Leone

Which Google translates as:
Trailer
Restoration
Testimonials Tonino Valeri, Franco Giraldi, Ennio Morricone
Interventions Montaldo, Caiano, Baldi, Koch and many others
(Frat) cuts (and) double
The locations and sets
Playing fotobuste and posters in postcard size
48-page hardback book full of pictures, documents and testimony
Reproduction of the original film by Sergio Leone

I ordered a copy, the inclusion of the collectibles tipped the scales for me. Plus, I had a $25 Paypal gift voucher burning a hole in my cyber wallet.

I got one!

Due to the fluctuating Euro exchange rate, I paid $42.87

Thanks for the link, Cochise!

Got my order from the eBay seller today. It's the collector's edition!

Boy, is this thing fantastic. They didn't spare any expense printing any of this, and if it came to the US (which it won't), it would probably cost around $40.

Yep, mine came in today as well. Great packaging with all the extras. Can't wait to watch it, but it will have to wait - it's Giorno Italiano for me. Finally snagged a copy of The Hurt Locker from a member here and it arrived today as well, and it gets first dubs.

Let me know what you think about Hurt Locker--just watched it again last week, still amazing, IMO.

The Hurt Locker is a great movie, really enjoyed it and it looks and sounds terriffic on blu-ray.

But, I'm really blown away by Fistful of Dollars as well. Beautiful restoration and looks so natural and filmlike on blu-ray, expecially when I compare it to my scrubbed squeaky clean The Good, the Bad & the Ugly US release. I listened to it in Italian PCM 5.1 with English subs so I could enjoy the music score and sound track in lossless; excellent AQ. Next time I watch I'll try the English mono for comparison.

Is the original soundtrack for the movie Italian or English?

Well, kind of both. When Eastwood and other Americans were speaking, they were obviously speaking English. But there voices spoken during the scenes wasn't used, just the sound effects. Back in the studio, the lines were read and dubbed into English and Italian. So, the Italian PCM has the original musical scores and sound effects, with dubbed Italian for most actors. The English audio would have the same but with dubbed English, but since it's only DD mono, not as good. Did you listen to it with the English audio? Try the Italian PCM 5.1 with English subs and the audio really comes alive.

Hmmm, does it hurt the movie seeing English speakers dubbed in Italian?

I'd imagine it would have no effect on people who spoke Italian originally.

It's a toss up, really. I hate this practice, but I love Spaghetti Westerns and Italian horror, so I'm screwed. In most cases (Fistful of Dollars included) there are English and Italian speaking actors. So if you watch in English some people will have the lip movements of Italian, and vice-versa.

What really bugs me is what Cochise was talking about above with none of the dialogue being used when the movie was shot. If you pay close enough attention you will be able to notice a disparity between Clint Eastwood's spoken lines and his lip movements because they were recorded at different times.

I've even heard of Italian directors (Argento) telling actors to say something trivial on camera and actually finish writing the dialogue after the movie was shot but before it was dubbed.

I watched it over the weekend and loved hearing the Italian PCM AQ while reading the English subs.
A special feature indicates that an original score sourced from Sony in Germany was used in this restoration.

The PQ looks great by the way.

Now I want to get The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, but I'm getting from your comment that the domestic BD received the DNR treatment.

Is there any foreign BD version that may be recommended?
