I frankly am surprised you can stand "Casshern". It's just too over the top. I think way back I may have referred to it as CGI vomit or something like that.

Finally got Goemon processed right with the external subs, for some reason the original True HD track was getting badly out of sync when muxing back with tsmuxer (about 1s too early right from the beginning though eac3to identified a -4ms offset only). Never seen that kind of a problem before. Had to convert it to PCM with eac3to & pcm2tsmu to get it muxed in properly so that it stays in sync. Extracted ac3 tracks was properly in sync too...

I used a "smart line conversion" feature or something like that in Subtitle Workshop that automatically adds linebreaks to suitable locations on long lines. Result seemed very nice.

Looking forward to watching this with English subs tonight.

I watched this last night again, this time with English subs. I enjoyed it quite a lot, again was in awe of the visuals, colors and music. The story was pretty good too in my opinion, a nice mix of Shinobi / Ninja action / political power struggles & war / Japanese history / heroic and goofy personalities / adventure / love interests. The actors fit their roles very well and I was having a very good time with the movie. It mixes some serious themes with humour in a nice way. I though the character development worked well and I really felt for the main characters.

Some of the computer generated graphics look a bit unrealistic, but realism doesn't seem to be what the director is going for in any case. That didn't bother me but some reviews of the movie have complained that it looks like a computer game (some scenes, especially those with massive armies and horses, do look like that but it worked out fine in my opinion).

I think the movie can be enjoyed through multiple viewings as I was quite eager to start watching it again after it finished

The external subs were of excellent quality, there were just a couple of longish lines that were timed to be shown a bit too short time, but otherwise no problems at all.

How does "Shinobi" pan out? Does it look like a Japanese "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" or close to it. I would LOVE for more Wuxia that actually looks great. As far as I know "Curse Of the Golden Flower" may be the only thing that comes close to it.
"Zu Warriors" would be great to see. Oh by the way, how does "Red Cliff" look? Also does the sequel look as good as the trailers I've seen for the original?

I enjoyed Shinobi a lot as a movie. It doesn't look as polished / high budget as "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", and the action sequences are not quite in the same league, but it's very entertaining and I felt the main characters played their parts very well, you can feel for them. It has pretty colorful charactres and good pacing.

Red Cliff is excellent in terms of PQ/AQ, I think the 2nd part looked and sounded about the same as the first in those areas. Personally I enjoyed the 2nd movie better than the first, as the first one didn't really conclude anything and it was largely about waiting and anticipation for the big battles that took place in the 2nd movie.

Wow than I MUST buy those. The Chinese know how to do color like only a few others. Too bad most Americans are afraid to use color and most American movies usually look dull as shit.
There are exception here and there. I would love to pick up "The Aviator" one of these days but only with Lossless sound.

The Nordic release from Nordisk Film has DTS-HD MA 5.1. Don't know about the region coding on this disc, all BDs from Nordisk Film I've got are region free though.
