I've understood that it's region free but encoded in 1080i50 which means you have to have a player and display that support 50hz. For example region A PS3 doesn't play 1080i50 content but stops with an error code.
I've got this disc on the way from BlahDVD, I expect to receive it around Friday. |

Thanks Kannisto, It's a bit odd though that you mention US PS3 doesn't support 50 Hz. As far as I know Twilight is 1080i 50 Hz as well and my PS3 play it with no problem at all. My display does support 50 Hz I know that for a fact.

At least U.S. and Japanese PS3s don't support 1080i 50 Hz, there are a lot of forum posts on the topic and I have experienced the problem myself with my Japanese PS3 many times as I have 5-10 1080i50 encoded movies and a few more that have 1080i50 intros before the movie. Since firmware 2.70 region A PS3 just throws an error code whenever it encounters a 1080i50 video stream. Previous firmwares were able to skip 1080i50 intros if the next thing to be played on the same playlist was in supported format. If the movie itself was encoded in 1080i50 it couldn't be played with earlier firmware either. There might be some other region A PS3s e.g. in Asian countries that support 50 Hz though, I'm not quite sure. |

My Twilight copy is from the UK. And many guys in the AVS forum mention that this twilight copy is 50 Hz.
my FW for PS3 is 2.74 which is auto updating from a recent game that I bought. Also I bought this PS3 in the UAE (Dubai) but the seller mention that this is the US version of the PS3. So I'm kinda caught in two minds whether to get this Max Manus copy or not.......*sigh

Please keep us informed, Kannisto. I'd also be interested in the audio specifications for this title. I might import this one if it'll play on my BH200...

Thanks for posting the pics & info.
![]() PQ does look very nice, looking forward to receiving my copy and hoping it plays OK on the LG BH200. When it doesn't play on your PS3 because of the 50Hz content, you rip the the movie to a hard drive and then re-encode it to 24fps?

If I have lots of free time I'll take the audio stream from the original disc and do the 25 fps => 24/1.001 fps conversion to that with eac3to, and it has to be encoded to DD 5.1 in the process (would be nice to have a DTS encoder but it's very expensive, the DD encoder is free). Then I'd take the subs from the original and turn them to .srt format with suprip (this takes quite much work as it's done with optical character recognition and the system needs to be "trained" to recognize all chars correctly, manual corrections are usually needed). Then I'd convert the .srt subs from 25 fps to 24/1.001 fps with Subtitle Workshop. Finally I'd use tsMuxeR to remux the original video changing it from 25 fps to 24/1.001 fps together with the redone audio and .srt subs, and I'd have a new Blu-ray folder structure with the 24/1.001 fps version of the movie that I could then watch on my PS3 if I put it on disc first. However, the smoothness of the movement in the video may be somehow negatively affected in the process so it's not quite optimal. I think I'll more likely watch it on my PC... |

![]() My projector reported receiving 1080/50p, and as I was curious I tried turning the Film Mode (24fps) on & off on the BH200 and it made no difference in PQ and my pj reported 1080/50p either way. I noticed the back of the packaging claims the feature is in 1080p, so I wonder if it is 1080p50fps and not 1080i50? I guess either was the 50fps is a no go for most Region A players. But the PQ is much better than I expected, even with seeing kanisto's screencaps.
