Default Gladiator Steelbook BD in Europe this Fall

I don't find a listing for it yet on any of the Amazon EU sites yet (except for the "this title has not yet been released" placeholder), but a DVD Times article says Universal (which holds the non-U.S. media rights) will release a 2-disc Steelbook release of Gladiator on Sept. 7, and this article (in French) says the Steelbook is coming to France in October.

I hope it's the director's cut.

It'll contain both 'theatrical' and the 'director's cut' editions.

Thanks for posting this! There are a lot of interesting horror films coming out on BD in the UK. If they end of being regionfree I'll be very happy... and very broke!

For clarification, the Director's Cut of Gladiator is the Theatrical Cut. Ridley Scott released the film exactly as he wanted it. The Extended Version adds in random junk that was cut for a good reason. As you can see I'm biased but just wanted to point out that the DC is the Theatrical Version.

Well, when I did my advanced search on Amazon France & Germany I did specify English for at least subtitles, thinking most HDD members would only be interested in movies that are 'English friendly' with at least English subtitles - which is probably how I missed Crows Zero. But happy to include any import that is of interest to anyone.
I guess listing primarily English friendly releases in this list is a good idea. Does that search method find also those French and German releases that have English audio but no subs? I guess some new entries might not have the right information regarding languages in those stores but they should be updated there when the release date gets closer.

Yes, that limit for 25000 for any single post makes it a lot more work to update this kind of lists as anytime the length is exceeded in one post it's necessary to shift some content to the next post, which may then exceed the size limit and so on Gets tedious when there is a lot of content with each post near the maximum size.

Added listings for:

The September 10 Touchstone Germany release of Knockin' on Heavens Door German and English audio. This movie never received a U.S. DVD release, but is very highly rated on imdb - 7.7/10.

The August 3 Lionsgate UK release of Open Water. A U.S. blu-ray release has not been announced.

And I added a HMV listing for the Gladiator blu-ray Steelbook release from Universal Pictures UK. Amazon UK has yet to make a listing. HMV's price is £17.99, around $29.50, which compares well with Paramount's US pricing. But, a warning: This will very likely be Region B locked, like Universal UK's release of "Mongol", for which New Line/Warner had the US rights.

Placed an order for the Gladiator Steelbook. Might cancel depending on Amazon UK's price

I've yet to see Open Water, I'll have to give the DVD a rent and see if I like it well enough to get the BD.

And Amazon.co.uk has their listing up for Universal UK's Gladiator Steelbook - only £13.99 before shipping, around $23.00, compared to Amazon.com's $27.99 for the US release. I already have my copy price locked in a pre-order. (But again, it will most likely be Region B locked)

Well it's not a particularly good film but nor is it awful. My main gripe is that it was shot on video and then transferred to film, so the image quality is well below HD.

I went ahead and pre-ordered all of my imports from this list with the exception of Outlander. I need to hear more about the specs.

Everything is from the UK with the exception of Strange Days; that's a German import.

Updated list with newly announced releases:

3 British films from BFi:
August 24, 2009 All the Right Noises BFI Video UK

August 24, 2009 The Big Switch BFi Video UK

August 24, 2009 Herostratus And Don Levy Shorts BFi Video UK

And added a listing for Monsters Inc which I'd left out previously thinking it would be canceled / postponed like the US release, but as Disney/Pixar released it in Japan, it does seem like they will continue to roll it out in select non-US markets.

July 27, 2009 Monsters, Inc. Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment UK

According to releaselists.com, Dances with Wolves (1990) is due Oct 12, Heat (1995) and The Negotiator (1998) are due Nov 9, North By Northwest (1959) and Clerks (1993) are due Nov 16. But Amazon UK doesn't have a listing for them yet, so I'll add them at a later date.

If Jackie Brown doesn't get a US date soon I might have to import.
