Would be awesome... if I spoke Japanese. Shame these won't have English subtitles just like the last Kurosawa box set.

It's good that these are 1080p, 2 discs in the previous 4-movie Kurosawa-set seemed to be in 1080i according to their back covers.

I might go for this, have to think about it. English subs would have made it easier to decide.

Yes according to BDInfo, The Quiet Duel and Madadayo, from the previous box was 1080i only.

If I understand the translation correctly, it appears that all 7 discs will be sold separately at the same day and that another 14 titles are planned: Ikiru, Stray Dog, I Live in Fear, The Hidden Fortress, The Lower Depths, The Most Beautiful, High and Low, Red Beard, Dodes'ka-den, No Regrets for Our Youth, Throne of Blood, Drunken Angel and One Wonderful Sunday. Starting in October, 7 discs will be released each month.

That's quite a lot of discs! Maybe I'll pick up individual discs that interest me the most from those one by one. It's a bit of work to add external subtitles every time but I still prefer to do that rather than watch without.

I've not actually seen that many Kurosawa movies yet as it is I've just seen some of the most highly regarded and famous ones.

I gotta get "The Bad Sleep Well" and "Tsubaki Sanjuro" given all the sound options they have. I want to make sure to have the option of the original mono in PCM as well as the 3 channel in PCM. Hmmm "Seven Samurai" sounds interesting for the sound options as well.
Most of the others I'm not worried about since I suspect Criterion will be releasing most.
Can someone remind me of something? Why will the Japanese take the time NOT to screw people on quality sound, including original and new, and we can't get jack shit comparatively?! I mean "Gigi" is old sound, NOT Lossless for it. The same goes for "Casablanca" and others.
They'd save money as it wouldn't go to Dolby being PCM.

Also I REALLY want to see "The Hidden Fortress" as I've heard that's basically what George Lucas fully ripped off of for "Star Wars".

You just KNOW these collections will look great on BR. I just don't see the Japanese half-assing these considering this is Kurosawa-sama.
Monkey is there any chance of you bringing the avatar you had before? I just REALLY liked it.

if this entire set came to america, i'd gladly pay more than 3 benjies.

Kurosawa is a film god, and is by far one of my favorite directors.
