Ahh, I was about to change the post because I realized someone else already made one about this set, but I see I have a reply, revert back to original form minus OP!

I read some posts a while back about this set and
most people said the quality was not nearly as good as it should be.
now whether that is true I have no idea.
but just throwing it out there. -

Bugger about non English subtitles. Ran is one of my favourites.
Using a Region Free Panasonic DMP-BD35. Best option ever!!
= 309 titles. -

Rashomon has been remastered in 2008 and looks very clean and nice based on a quick check. I bought that separately today as it was released as a stand-alone (at the same time with the box). I think Ahsoka noted earlier that some of the other movies in the box haven't been remastered recently and didn't look quite as good. There's an extra on Rashomon disc that demonstrates some scenes before and after restoration. A lot of cleaning up has been done.
Just read the review from the OP's first post now and according to that the original grain has been scrubbed away in many of these releases. It could be that there's not much of the original grain left in Rashomon either. The original before remastering was full of scratches and dirt though based on the extra.Last edited by kannisto; 05-08-2009 at 05:38 AM.

the whole idea of "grain scrubbing" stuff like this just makes me want to puke.

Found this box today for 8800 yen as "outlet product" at Tsutaya 2nd hand section. It seems to be all sealed and everything, picked it up as the price was really good.
Looking forward to start watching these.
Too bad I already bought Rashomon separately too.
