Here are the first 10 screencaps. 10 more in next post. I didn't watch the movie yet but took the caps from here and there. Some sequences in the movie seem to have a bit softer and hazier look apparently on purpose while others look very sharp and detailed. I'm not sure if there are any issues like aliasing.

The rumor was that they were going to re-render the whole movie at 1080p, but considering how soft some of those shots are, and the jaggies, im guessing they just upscaled the 480p DVD master, and inserted the new scenes (about a half hour) which are actually 1080p.

from what i remember, there were some scenes that were soft on the dvd also, so i think it must have been done on purpose.

im with you on this one, i think that any scenes that are softer is because of directors intent, and im not one to complain about that, like others did with say appleseed ex machina

I finished watching the movie. I used the English audio this first time as I figured the dialogue might be complex. At first I didn't quite get into it, it seemed the story was a bit fractured and I'm not that familiar with Final Fantasy games etc. but I started liking it much more during the 2nd half. Especially the last 45 minutes had a lot of explosive action. The opera influenced metal music as well as the classical music parts worked quite well with the visuals as well.

There were quite a lot of scenes that looked like they were from a much lower resolution source. The best looking scenes looked a whole lot better than some others. I guess there wasn't a high enough resolution master for all of the content. Anyway, when it looked good it was a real audiovisual feast.

Some more action oriented screecaps:

I checked the extras as well and they were with Japanese audio only. 3 of them were some kind of memorials of the history of Final Fantasy games, showing a lot of clips of those games, especially the old ones. Then there was a 28m:06s long full HD Anime episode "On the Way to a Smile - Episode Denzel Final Fantasy VII (OVA)" and 5 different HD trailers for the movie.

loved the new extended cut. the additional scenes really added more to the story and the extended action scenes were excellent. a definite improvement over the original cut. loved the blood too

and to aswer the question, the FFXIII demo comes with the LE version.

This is very pleasing to hear. The story was paper-thin, especially in the second half, and I was hoping the director's cut would actually create a more threatening plot (there is little build up to it in the original).

yea, it cleared up some confusion and questions from the original cut. not only were some of the battle scenes extended, but they actually altered them to make them better. i won't spoil the specific changes for you guys.

The version which is linked in the first post of this thread is not the version that comes with the demo. I wasn't personally interested in the demo so I just ordered the cheapest normal edition.
