I checked the disc a bit, it seems the menu is only in Korean. Only the main feature seems to have English subs. The English subs are on top of the video image (not in the black bar area), font is nice and not too large.

There are quite many extras on the disc but none of the extras seem to have English subtitles, at least from what I saw so far. There was e.g. a Making of -type documentary in SD resolution that was about 91 minutes long, and something that looks like deleted scenes etc. A bit difficult to figure out what everything is, because they are only in Korean in the menu and there are no subs for them.

International Cut + no subs on extras (expected) = time to rebuy the UK release.

A shame because I really wanted to import this Korean disc but it seems silly when there's a fully English friendly UK release.

The UK version is 2:10:06 and this is 2:09:54. Only differences should be the studio logos at the beginning. Or is the UK version really cut for animal violence?

I guess if something was cut in the UK version, it could be related to the horse stunts. There was at least one noticeable case of a horse tripping over where I thought it might be what UK may have cut since I've understood UK tend to be strict regarding such horse stunts in movies. I didn't notice anything else in the movie that could have felt as cruelty towards animals.

The end credits noted that "Horse Rental and Coordination: Horse Lovers Movie Stunt, Beijing, China".

I watched the movie last night and enjoyed it, but it felt quite lightweight entertainment though, not something very memorable that would demand several viewings. There's not that much character development in the movie, it's pretty much about stylized action sequences. Entertaining but in my view could have been better if there was more focus on the character and story development.

The PQ looked kind of digital, there's a lot of sharpness / detail but it feels like everything's a bit enhanced, e.g. sharpness and the colors. Not a very film-like look. In some of the extras they showed how some scenes were made and it appears that there was a lot of digital insertion of diffferent backgrounds etc. so it's probably all just part of the style of the movie. As far as picture detail / sharpness goes, there was anyway a lot of it on screen.

Some of the extras were actually in HD, and there's an alternative end sequence in HD (11m:49s) (with Korean audio + burnt in Korean subs for Japanese dialogue parts), complete with Korean version of the end credits (the international end credits use western style for the names etc.). Some parts of this altarnative sequence are in the actual movie too.

This is marked as CJ Entertainment release 001 on the case, I hope they've got more Korean movies in the plans for Blu-ray as I'd surely buy more of them if they released some.

IMDB sez: The UK theatrical release had compulsory cuts made. 5 seconds of cuts were required to remove sight of real animal cruelty, in this instance three cruel horse falls, in line with the requirements of the Cinematograph Films (Animals) Act 1937.

Did you count shipping into the price too? 5905 yen is about 66.36 USD according to XE currency converter. Of course in the older days when yen wasn't quite as strong it would have been about $50.

It's listed as a limited first edition release there, those are getting more and more common in Japan. I guess that justifies the higher prices a bit... Still not too cheap though.

You are right about the date, the correct one is 2/10. I mixed up a bit when writing as some other Warner titles in the same Watch Impress articles had release date of 20th of January and this one was 10th of February.

I corrected the date in my original post now.
