Gizmo, just noticed another Canadian release that's not on your list: Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter
Here's the Amazon link: http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B001...&pf_rd_i=typ01

One funny note about this release; if you look at the top of the packaging, it reads "Special Edition HD-DVD". I thought that was pretty funny.

I'm finding it difficult in finding a single review for DOA, and other Canadian releases as well. I'll keep my eyes peeled for any PQ/AQ impressions on DOA though.

I've received and watched DOA. While it's not Fellini, it's a fun movie with really hot chicks (Sarah Carter) and decent action. The picture quality is about what you would expect: outstanding color density and shadow detail with the only fault being a somewhat soft appearance as a result of the extensive filters inherent to the style of the film and the use of CG backgrounds. Skin detail and color are good (particularly evident in the wide variety of ethnic groups represented in the cast), though somewhat "blown out" due to a faux bleach-bypass technique. The outdoor scenes look amazing - particularly the Beach Volleyball scene. Overall a no-brainer of a purchase with a good-to-excellent presentation.

That actually came out in American as well on Blu-ray (I removed it from the list a while back).

Can I get specs for it? 1080p? DTS MA? Special Features?

Thanks

I got my hands on a copy of Cruising Bar 2 and watched it earlier this afternoon.
It's released by Alliance Vivafilm and is on a 25GB single layer disc. Runtime is 1 hour and 43 minutes.

Video: 1080p, 16x9 (1.78:1) Video was alright. It's like the video quality for The Constant Gardener; soft but still looks nice.
Audio: French 5.1 PCM and French 5.1 Dolby Digital. Audio was really good for this release, even though it's not a huge, loud, booming soundtrack. All channels are used really nicely.
Subtitled in both French and English.
Special features are all in French with no subtitles of any sort. There's a 40+ minute making of documentary, couple of deleted scenes, a few minutes worth of bloopers, and 4 theatrical trailers, including one for Cruising Bar 2 itself.

Mediocre PQ. Decent AQ. I have both the DVD and Bluray. The Bluray is only marginally better than the DVD release, largely because of the audio improvement.

All the filtering that they did to this film just smashed the detail that could be there. There is almost no fine detail anywhere, which makes the image look flat and lifeless.

Also, the blacks are crushed on some of the night scenes while others look okay.

A couple years ago I had a chance to watch about two minutes of raw footage from the the volleyball scene, before any effects shots were added. There was tons of detail; individual hairs on the arms, pores, beads of water/sweat clearly defined, and even the individual twists of cord making up the net. It was highly detailed footage (yum).

Almost all of that is gone here. I don't know if the PQ suffers because of video effects processing, or something in the transfer. It's a shame we can't get some of the unmolested HD footage, at least as a bonus feature.

It's not out till next week is it? I think it's a little much to be expecting advance copies of these Canada only releases to be sent to reviewers by Alliance.

The only reviews will likely be from people who buy them on or after release day.

Well I dunno how reviews work. I just saw a review of Good Will Hunting on DVDBeaver.com posted a while back and I thought that just came out not too long ago. Just wondering.
