Just got finished ordering Killshot and Outlander from Amazon.ca (which are being released by Alliance). Then I went to check Amazon.com about these releases and why they weren't being released on blu-ray in the States and then I found out...Weinstein. I understand now. It sucks that Weinstein doesn't release many titles. They really got to get their act together and start releasing these titles for you guys down there. Why won't they release these on blu-ray anyway? Does it still have something to do with them not having enough money to release titles on blu-ray?

IIRC, one of those titles was shown in a Blu-ray case on the BD-Live features of Superhero Movie. Weinstein has left the Blu building for the time being.

Gizmo, I noticed in your 'Coming Soon' section that Blade got cancelled from Warner. I wonder if they'll be planning the Blade Trilogy sometime soon then instead.

15 minutes is 1080i. I think I've said this already in this thread.

No idea. Blade was planned for an American release and its disappeared. I doubt a Trilogy will come this year...maybe next?

You were right, Exist2Inspire; The Wrestler documentary was no where to be found on the Canadian blu-ray release, but the movie itself was indeed 1 hour and 49 minutes. I wonder what the additional 4 minutes were of. I can't say I loved the film itself (I found that it had quite a few problems with the wrestling aspect), but I still enjoyed it mostly.

For those who are interested, The Pianist which is being released tomorrow by TVA Films is apparently having two different releases for The Pianist. On the Amazon page, there's one for $20.95 (which is the one I ordered), and one for $37.95. However, I can't find any details of these two releases (even contacted TVA about it and surprise-surprise...no response from them). But, for fans of the movie, I just thought I should let you know about the two releases.

Same for Fanboys with two different price points. No idea why (maybe one is with a discount and the other not?)

Just checked the Amazon.ca page, and it looks as if The Pianist is not in stock (it seems like this always happens with TVA releases on Amazon). Hopefully they'll get some in stock by early May. Also, the more expensive version is now labled 'currently unavailable" and has the $37.95 price taken off, so it looks like The Pianist will only be getting one release for now.

Just got finished watching The Pianist. Before I start with my impressions, I'd like to first say that the packaging it was in was below par. It's a little thinner than a standard blu-ray case, there's no blu-ray symbol on the top of the package, and it just all around feels and looks a little chintzy (and not to mention that the disc was loose inside, but there was no damage done).

Video quality: 1.85:1, 1080 (not sure if it's i or p, but judging from the studio's past releases, I'm going to guess it's 1080i). I'll tell you right now, this release got hit with DNR, but not TOO badly. Comparing it with the Optimum/Studio Canal HD DVD release, I'd have to give the upper hand to the HD DVD, but just by a bit. I don't mind DNR too much if they don't go overboard with it, but I just thought having it applied to this blu-ray release was unnecessary. The UK HD DVD had some slightly better detail so I have to recommend that version over this Canadian blu-ray.

Audio: English and French 5.1 Dolby TrueHD. This was a pretty good mix. I didn't notice any difference between this track and the DTS HD-MA track on the HD DVD. This was a good track for the movie. English and French subtitles as well.

No special features. I was surprised by this. I would've thought that TVA would have had SOMETHING on this release. This was really disappointing to see.

So for Canadians, I'll recommend this. Video was good, audio was nicely done, price could've been cheaper though (if you can find this for around $14, it's worth it). For everyone else looking to import this, I'd say wait for another release (preferably the Universal release).

(Looks like this is region locked)

Anyone see The Illusionist yet? Comes out Tuesday. Curious if its 1080i or p.
