Ordered Outlander, Killshot, Blade & Copland. Outlander is a fun viking/alien flick and Blade and Copland a no-brainers. I'm a bit surprised about Killshot, though - it's only had a brief theatrical release in Israel and there was talk about a big push for a theatrical release in the US following Mickey Roark's comeback in the Wrestler. The damn movie has been in the can for like two years!

The Pianist will be released here in Canada on April 28th. It's a TVA release, so it'll probably have the special features from the DVD release, lossless audio, and 1080i (maybe 1080p, you never know). It's $20.97 on Amazon right now. I wonder how this will match up against the UK HD DVD release (that release was absolutely stellar). But TVA does a great job with their blu-ray releases too, so I expect the same results.
Here's the link for the Amazon page. No cover-art up yet: http://www.amazon.ca/Pianist-Blu-ray...8699351&sr=1-7

Nope. Warner (Newline) is doing the same for Final Destination...no sequels. May want to see how well it sells first.

My copies of Trainspotting and A Man Apart shipped from Amazon earlier today. I'll give my impressions of them once I have viewed them. I've never seen either movie before but they both sounded to be pretty good. Hopefully these blind-buys were worth it!

Alright. Got my items in the mail today (I'm really diggin' this one day shipping).

Trainspotting

Video: 1080p, 1.78:1 aspect ratio, 1h 34min
Audio: English 5.1 DTS HD-MA, 5.1 dolby digital, French 2.0 dolby surround

I just thought the movie was alright. It had some good ideas in it, some pretty funny parts, but it was just kinda all over the place. I think I need another viewing of it. Maybe then it will make more sense. McGregor was pretty good in it though. Good performances all around actually.

Video quality was pretty good. Detail was pretty nice. I had a few problems with this release though. Even though detail was pretty good, the video still looked a bit murky a lot of the time. I don't know if it was meant to be this way, but it seemed as if the video could've been a little better. Colours were nice, but should've been more vibrant at certain times. Outdoor scenes looked fantastic for the most part, but indoor scenes could've had a bit more kick to them. There were those black specs popping up on the screen some of the time, but weren't too distracting. So it seems as if the PQ was sorta hit-and-miss, but it was more of a hit than a miss. It still looks pretty good. 4 outta 5

Audio quality was good. Comparing the dolby digital track to the DTS HD-MA track, the lossless track easily overtakes the dolby. The rear channels were used nicely, dialogue was nice and clear (and pretty understandable as well for the most part), and all audio levels were mixed nicely. Bass usage was spot-on as well This was a very suitable audio track for this movie. 4 outta 5

No subtitles (expect for some french subtext that can pop-up when english writing comes on the screen)
No extras.

A Man Apart

Video: 1080p, 1.78:1 aspect ratio, 1h 45min
Audio: English 5.1 DTS HD-MA, English and French 5.1 dolby digital tracks

This movie surprised me. I was expecting a really cheesy action film, but it was actually better than that. Don't get me wrong, it's not a perfect movie but it's a darn good one. It was a very predictable movie though, so don't go into it thinking there's a mind-boggling thriller story to this one. I enjoyed this one for the most part. This is a definite re-watch for me. Very entertaining.

Picture quality...wow...it was...wow. First, a few minor 'problems'. There were a couple of shots that could've looked a little bit better (brightness, detail), there was some very, very light grain that popped up for a few quick shots, and there were a couple of black specs that popped up the odd rare time. So those are VERY minor complaints. With that aside, the video presentation was absolutely solid. Detail was fabulous. Colours were excellent. Blacks and whites were perfect. I was not expecting this movie to look THIS good. By far Alliance's best blu-ray release to date. Phenomenal job. 4.5 outta 5

Audio was great. Not much to say in this department. It was a typical sounding action flick I thought. The lossless track was better than the dolby track no doubt. This track suits the movie really well. 4 outta 5

No subtitles (expect for some french subtext that can pop-up when english writing comes on the screen)
No extras.

Hey guys,
I'm not sure if anyone in here is on Twitter but if you look up "chcanada_deals". There's a 24 hour offer going on for CHCanada where you spend $23.99 & get $5 off. Even if you're not on twitter you can still look up the link. Check it out!

Any impressions re the picture quality on the Copland Blu-Ray? I heard the German version looked bad, so I held off.

Thanks.

Can't remember if these titles were posted before (my dial-up internet is running slow tonight so I can't go through the pages in this thread {and I also noticed that they weren't listed on the first post}), but on the TVA website, they have these blu-ray titles:

Over Her Dead Body (Oct.7/08)
La Vie En Rose (Oct.7/08)
The Pianist (Apr.7/09) <---I posted that title before, but Amazon has it as an April 28th release, so I don't know if it's released already and Amazon is just going to be slow at releasing this one (also, Amazon has the cover-art up for The Pianist which you can see at this link: http://www.amazon.ca/The-Pianist-Blu...9414637&sr=8-2

Here's the link for the 3 releases: http://www.tvafilms.com/en/index.php...w=article&id=2

The Wrestler

It's being released in Canada by Alliance... be prepared to get pissed...

Picture: 1080p
Aspect Ratio: 2.35:1
Running Time: 1hr 49 min
Audio: DTS HD-MA 5.1 English, Dolby Digital 5.1 French
Subtitles: English (SDH)

Bonus Features:
- The Wrestler Round Table
- The Wrestler Music Video

The Good: Almost Identical to the US Release being put out by Fox (?). Best part of all, we get the original poster art instead of Randy "The Ram" jumping off the top rope. 1080p picture and the correct Apect Ratio. Normal running time of the film is 1 hr 45 minutes, so we are getting an extra 4 minutes of something.

The Bad: The Alliance release is missing the 40-Minute behind the scenes making of the film. Arg!

Ughhhhhhhh, no documentary? This was going to be one of those rare times that I'd actually take the time and watch the making-of documentary. That sucks. Well, at least we still get the wrestler round table; that'll be a great extra for sure. And I like the Alliance cover-art a lot better than the Fox cover-art. An extra 4 minutes of footage...hmmm, I wonder if that was just a typo that Alliance made. Guess we'll find out soon enough.
