I finally bought Zero Focus after being quite interested in it for a while. It's not English friendly and couldn't even find external subs for it now, will need to watch as is.
It's region free (BD50) and PQ looks pretty good at a glance. The extras DVD (NTSC, SL) is region 2 locked.

I watched Zero Focus some time ago and it was a bit hard to follow as the plot is quite complex and English subs would have certainly helped. I hope to find external English subs for it later. As a movie it was very interesting and stylish, certainly somewhat similar to Hitchcock in style.
I picked up Golden Slumber and My Rainy Days Japanese BDs today 2nd hand. Both are region free BD50s and both have a 2nd DVD disc (region 2 locked DL NTSC) with extras. Subscene has English subs for Golden Slumber and at least opensubtitles.org has subs for My Rainy Days. -

Hopefully external subs or a subtitled version of Zero Focus will turn up... I'll probably get Golden Slumber at some point, it looks very interesting. Good to know there are external English subtitles available for it. I got My Rainy Days recently too but it's the HK version. It's a BD25 with English subtitles and Japanese Dolby TrueHD 5.1. Havn't watched it yet.

My Life as a Dog / Mitt Liv Som Hund Japanese release from IVC (no English) is region free (BD25) but encoded in 1080i60. Looks pretty good and appropriately grainy, it's said to be from a HD master. Original Swedish + Japanese mono (2.0) audio tracks and AVC encoded video original aspect ratio 1.66:1 (as far as I can tell).
No extras on the disc but there is a 28-page booklet in Japanese with some B&W images from the movie.

I watched Mitt Liv Som Hund the other night (with excellent external English subs) for the first time and liked it a lot. A very good period coming of age picture. PQ was also very good for the most part, there's some variation though and some scenes looked less stellar, the source material seems to be a bit uneven. Overall the image was very pleasing in any case and I wouldn't have known it was in 1080i60 instead of 1080p24 just by watching it. There was a text after the end credits stating that it was digitally restored in 2002 in Sweden so this seems to be from that version. There was no Japanese image censorship applied though there were some glimpses of nudity. Certainly going to get Fanny & Alexander Japanese release from IVC as well when it comes out. I can also utilize these "Swedish lessons" in my new job somehow

Thanks for the info on these! I still didn't watch my Japanese BD of Ballad, but now that there is a version with English subs I'll need to find the subs in the internet first.
I watched Fanny & Alexander long version over the new year holidays in 3 sessions, enjoyed it very much and the PQ was very good. Found excellent English subs for it which I used with some retiming as my Swedish is not quite good enough to understand all of the dialogue well enough. I'm getting some more exposure to Swedish at work these days though.
Sometimes pretty grainy in low light scenes but that just goes to show that they didn't do any harmful processing to it. -

Noticed that Beyond (Svinalängorna) will be out in July from Nordisk Film, it's gotten very good reviews.

Svinalängorna looks very interesting indeed. It will be a must have when it comes out. Noomi Rapace should be good and it has some Finnish actors/actresses too who were nominated for some awards in Sweden too.

Got the recent Japanese Paramount release of Tower of Death (a.k.a. Game of Death 2) today. It's region A locked BD25. All audio tracks on this one are in English and it has optional Japanese, English and Traditional Chinese subs. It seems to be the English friendly exception among the recently released Bruce Lee films.

Apparently the Bruce Lee footage in this film is cut in from some other sources and sometimes it looks noticeably different in PQ. There are scenes where Bruce Lee is having a fight with somebody with closeups of both faces that look to be from completely different sources (example pics 3 & 4) and then the fight with a "stand-in" (pic 5) instead of the real Bruce etc. Overall this looks like a lot of fun but PQ is very variable.

Killer Bride's Perfect Crime is out on BD in HK. Thought the movie was very enjoyable.
Leading actress is Juri Ueno from Swing Girls. The original Japanese title seems to be Killer Virgin Road.
