here's how it works. i'm clearer on this now i've completely processed first order.
initially, you checkout for the discs only. wait for stock to arrive, parcel to be wrapped up. email arrives to give you EMS or airmail choices.
amounts match chart linked to bottom-left of site - that is, if you can guess how much your discs weigh, or if you can work out how many would likely fit within the initial price band, you might make it pay. as it is, £18 limit is a barrier too, of course.
for 2 DVDs, the airmail cost was 400TW - that's £7. price of discs was £13. now, i've bought pretty much all my DVDs via post, and i've never come across a postage price that high, no matter where from. mind you, i think that it's perhaps only going to be 20 - 30% over what i'd pay happily. i suppose that if you're not going to standardise your postage, be upfront about it, or charge a realistic / actual amount, or i've no sympathy. as it is, the total for my order was about £2 cheaper than yesasia's prices. would like to find an alternative TW retailer with english site, in order to see the postage costs and how they might vary; haven't tried books.com.tw yet, as they've little choice on offer.
little experience with TW yet, so guess i'm at a stage where mistakes might be made. thing is, so little help or experience out there too, it seems. -

Thanks for the info. Because of their high shipping charges (and checkout system), I will probably only use them again if they have something exclusive. I bought the Taiwanese releases of Red Cliff I & II from JSDVD, couldn't find them anywhere else. I've ordered Shonen Merikensack from Buyoyo for HK$127.00 = £10 including shipping to Europe via Air Mail.

bizarre. last thing i'd expect is TW versions at an HK shop. good price too. they don't have many, so i guess thats the HK retailer you regularly use and you happened to spot it. i'm a dddhouse man, so...
in the end, the price i've paid is about £20 including postage for two discs - one the BD of shonen merikensack - and the price i got in TW is typical, yet above what you paid for one that had been imported to HK. who would have thought? -

Got the Taiwanese Shonen Merikensack BD today.
Only had a quick look but PQ seems fine and it's region free.

Just got a shipping notice for Terminator Salvation (Sony release in Japan and various European countries, Warner release in U.S.). As it's a Warner release in U.S. it may be interesting to compare the specs etc. I'll post impressions and details when I get mine in.

I just got my Dirty Harry Collection from Amazon UK finally. I had to ask them to reship it as the original shipment never arrived, the reshipped package arrived in a week.

I think this is pretty good value for money as the whole box is 25.63 GBP when VAT has been removed and they only charge the same shipping cost as for single disc (at least did in my case), so it was below 30 GBP shipped. The box contains the 5 UK movies in separate (thick UK type) cases, so it's basically the same as buying the 5 movies separately + you get a very thin cardboard case for housing all the discs. The discs are region free and the content seem to be identical to Japanese releases as there are even Japanese menus and language options on the disc when player's menu language setting is Japanese. There are many European languages covered also.
In Japan the corresponding set (though it's probably closer to the U.S. set with no individual cases) costs a sweet 18,335 yen in Amazon JP, which is about 206.369 USD or 124.200 GBP. Well, it does seem to have a whole bunch of extra little things packed in but still...

a question: are the scream and hard candy imports on amazon from Australia? if so, are they R1 PS3 friendly (ie, no 50hz trailers pre-menu)? let's just say i have a hankering to review them, and have them on order already (though not shipping for a bit so i can still cancel)

The first two movies are really great and I too look forward to the 3rd and final part. It will also be interesting to see Yukihiro Takahashi in it as he's a favourite musician of mine. It's a shame that the VAP releases are not English friendly, fortunatly they're also released in HK with English subtitles. The HK discs are region A locked though.

I'm not sure what versions Amazon is carrying but Hard Candy might only have been released in Australia (?). That Aussie Hard Candy seems to be encoded in 1080i50 altogether.
