Fox will release Big Trouble in Little China in Japan on May 22nd:
http://av.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/n...319_76093.html
It's coming out in some European countries in May also. The Japanese release is going to be region A if locked so it's safer for region A importers who don't have region free setups. I guess U.S. release will be available at some point also...
VAP will release a Japanese movie "252: Signal of Life" on the same day:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1260932/
http://asianmediawiki.com/252:_Signal_of_Life
Probably no English subs on that one...
Geneon Universal (newly united in Japan) will release another Japanese movie "I Want to Be a Shellfish" on 3rd of June:

Not sure about English subs on this one either... Will need to check when specs are available in more detail. -

I just received Brief Encounter from Amazon UK and it is region locked. I was very surprised and disappointed last night when I popped it in my Panasonic BD-50 only to get a screen saying it was the wrong region for my player.

[QUOTE] WHAT!

are you serious?
I haven't opened mine yet because I've got a lot of catch up.
I can't believe that.
why would that one get locked?
SHIT!
I am so pissed off now.
I just need to order the fucking mod kit Monday.
I'm so sick of having to worry about this crap.
(I wonder if Criterion got wind of that release and had something to do with it being locked; it's one of the films they have distribution rights to) -

Unfortunately, yes. I've purchased many other ITV titles without incident, so this caught me completely off balance. It's very frustrating to have this movie and no way to watch it. I guess I'll have to find a reliable place to get my player modded.WHAT! are you serious? -

Just get a BD-ROM drive for your pc and hook that up to your tv. All you need is Anydvd HD and you're set. It's probably cheaper then getting ur player modded.

I posted this in the Megastore thread as well...
I received my Swedish releases of Eden Lake and Blindness today.
Eden Lake (Atlantic):
- Region free and works fine on my Japanese region A PS3
- BD-25 (only 16127 Mbytes used)
- MPEG-2 video 1080p 23.976 fps 2.35:1 (OAR)
- DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and DD 5.1 English audio tracks
- Optional Swedish, Danish, Finnish and Norwegian subs
- No extras
Looks excellent at a glance. I do wish they had used a more modern video codec but I'm not sure if MPEG-2 use is going to be noticeable in the PQ department.
Blindness:
- Region B locked (not common for Sandrew Metronome previously, argh...)
- BD-50 (33409 Mbytes used)
- AVC video 1080p 23.976 fps 1.85 (OAR) (or 1.78:1 ?)
- DTS-HD High Resolution 5.1 English audio at 2814 kbps
(contains some Japanese dialogue, about 5% of the movie or less)
- Optional Swedish, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian and English* subs
- Extras: Making of (576i AVC), U.S. trailer (1080p), Trailer (1080p), Interviews with Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo, Gael Garcia Bernal, Fernando Meirelles) (576i AVC), Behind the Scenes (576i AVC), Photo Gallery (1080p)
*English subs are hidden, not mentioned in the back of the case and not available in main or pop-up menu's subtitles selection, but they can be selected manually e.g. with remote. The English subs only cover the non-English dialogue (Japanese), all the other subs cover the whole movie.
PQ looked fine, the colors are a bit cold / metallic and muted, the image is quite contrasty and sometimes overexposed for effect as it's related to the plot of the movie. Level of sharpness is very good. A couple of darker scenes didn't look perfect to me but otherwise it was a very fine presentation.Last edited by kannisto; 03-25-2009 at 09:28 PM.

Thanks! I'll incloude the info in my next updates for the Japanese list. Very interested in your comments about Suspect X as a movie, I've been looking at the disc with some interest but didn't buy so far because of my restricted budget currently. If it's good I might pick it up 2nd hand when I see it for a nice price. Recently Tsutaya often has the new Japanese movie releases available 2nd hand very soon after release but their 2nd hand BD prices are about the same as Amazon's for the new discs. They only lower the prices later if they get more of the same discs and nobody seems to be buying...

I watched "Blindness" last night and updated my comments about the specs and PQ in my earlier post. I noticed that it includes hidden English subs that can be enabled with remote and those cover only the non-English dialogue parts of the movie. It has some Japanese dialogue, up to 5% of the movie or so... Those hidden English subs make the Nordic release very English friendly
