Info on import Blu-ray titles

I have been searching for information weather the 5 cm per second (Japan) Blu Ray Would be region coded or not. I saw the packaging list Region A but heard of a lot of other Titles actually being region free nonetheless.

Just wanted to know if this is really the case with 5 cm per second and The Place Promised as well maybe.

Reply would be greatly appreciated, since i cant wait to buy these discs if its true ^^

Does the packaging for these really list region A, I remember not seeing any region markings on the packaging when I looked at the BD versions in a shop?

I have both as HD DVD versions so I can't confirm the region myself for the BD releases. I know the BD releases (and HD DVDs) do not have any English language on them though so you have to manage with Japanese only.

Damn it. I have a PS3, so that's out of the question. I canceled my American version order.

Innoncence releases are region A locked since they are Japanese, so you shouldn't have any problem with a U.S. PS3, or is it a European one? I have the Absolute Edition (your 2nd link) myself, it came originally in a metapak (metal case but not steelbook), but now I've seen them in all shops in regular cases only so I guess the metapak version ran out already. The original (first link) is in MPEG-2 and the Absolute Edition (2nd link) is in AVC. Absolute Edition has also been cheaper for some reason so that's definitely the version to go for.

Thanks for the tip! I might pick up this though I'm now extremely picky about my purchases until my job situation is cured.

Now I'm focusing on watching my discs that I haven't watched yet. Been also learning how to convert HD DVDs to Blu-ray format so that I can add English subs to them in the process, as I have many HD DVDs with no English or Finnish language options. Already did one successfully, "Jiang Hu / Gong wu / Blood Brothers / Velvet Rain" and could finally watch it properly using my PS3

Sure it will work in a US PS3 since there's nothing on Japanese releases that would not work in US hw. The region is the same and Japan has never used the PAL system (SD = NTSC here) so all extras are going to be compatible too.

By the way, HMV JP is usually cheaper to import from than Amazon JP because their shipping is more affordable. HMV ships by EMS which costs 1200 yen for one and two disc packages usually. It's best to buy 2 discs at a time from there to get their multibuy discount.

I found the new Japanese Sony release "Climber's High" in the local Tsutaya rental store already, it seems to have been released to rental on 26th of December although sales release is on 1st of January. This version seems to be specially made for rental only as it has several forced intros in front of the movie like Japanese rental DVDs often do. Sony's sales BDs haven't been like that. There are no extras other than those intros / trailers. It's a BD-50 with a high bitrate AVC video and TrueHD audio in Japanese + optional Japanese subs. Not English friendly (wasn't expected to be either). I think the main movie presentation is the same as on the sales release.

This version is actually region free but it had the region A marking on the back of the rental case and on the disc as well, not sure if the sales release is then going to be region A locked. I'll try to watch this soon though I'll have to manage with Japanese audio only. Couldn't even find any English subs for this movie in the internet at this point, it's too new.

Thanks for the info, you got to watch it very early. I pre-ordered mine and I expect it will be shipped tomorrow. Hope it will be possible to find external English subs for it later.

Yeah, I'd sure like to watch it again with English subs. The end credits of the movie mention some translator's name who has done the English subs for the movie but those aren't included in this release. At least the subs must exist in some form then and will hopefully be found later.

as far as I know Pulp Fiction has not been released in France.

It was supposed to be released earlier but has been postponed at least once or twice already. Sometimes the online shops don't update the dates very reliably.

A lot of it happens in a newspaper office room though, I took more caps from the other parts I really wish English subs become available as I think I missed most of the key drama points in the movie because of too complex / fast Japanese dialogue.

You're right, amazon lists it as not available...
