on Oct 6th according to an article I just read.
This is a concert film directed by the director of "The Diving Bell and The Butterfly". It is of Reed performing his 70's era concept album "Berlin" from a recent tour. I was just wondering about Artificial Eye the other day. They are one of the best dvd labels in the UK, and have an amazing catalog of old and new classic films. No info on possible region coding, but let's hope this release is region free. btw: I highly recommend listening to this album. I have had the cd for years, and it is an awesome work. Also, for those people wondering, Reed founded the legendary group "The Velvet Underground" in the late 1960's, and has had a long solo career with such hits as "Walk On the Wild Side" |

I've been to his concert in Amsterdam, which was great (though Lou can't really sing anymore, but that doesn't matter too much for the Berlin album).
I also got the DVD that was recently released, but I found it rather underwhelming. The direction from Julian Schnabel is quite... lame. Lots of extreme close-ups, lots of wobbly cameras, too many stupid special effect cuts. I didn't think it properly conveyed the atmosphere of the actual concert, which is what a concert DVD at the very least should do.

I might pick this up. I don't know the album, but I quite enjoy the Lou Reed stuff I do know.
It's great news that Artificial Eye are releasing Blu-Rays now. ![]() |
