I wonder why it's released first in Sweden and not France.

MK2 have simply left their HD planning at the moment aside. There is hardly anything they will be releasing in a near future.

Does Nobel Entertainment have a region encoding history that may inform assumptions about how this release will be coded, if at all?

I expect this release to be both region-coded and without English subs. I would be shocked if it is not. Still, I believe that it is a good indicator to see these films already given the HD treatment. It took years for them to be released on SDVD.

I am sorry to have to disappoint as I desire these films as much as you do and likely will end up adding them to my collection as I don't necessarily need English subtitles.

btw: isn't the director considered Swedish?
would make sense for it to be released in Sweden first correct. I know he's not French.

He is a Pole who was indirectly forced into exile in France by the comrades.

I'm not going to say that this set will be a disappointment but the European releases of these movies were inferior to the later US releases.
That goes for The Double Life of Veronique as well.

Blue and White looked good on EU DVD. Red was a disaster, but none of the reviewers seem to have noticed that the image was very soft and the colors muddy. Where was the RED in the title? Most reds had a brown tint. Not like the movie looked in movie theaters.

The US release had colors a little bit too boosted but was a better release in both image and extras. The commentaries were very interesting (none by the director, of course) and the extras were comprehensive.

I'll wait for reviews and perhaps for news regarding a US release until I decide if I should get it.

For 3 movies the price isn't too high but I'm still not certain I want to buy 2 versions on Blu-ray if the first set isn't "good enough".
