Default Recommendations? Blu-ray imports???

Hey, sorry if this has been asked multilple times...
I'm very interested in the import of John Carpenter's The Fog that is out early August in the UK. A couple of quick questions:
Are there any North American companies people have purchased imports from with positive results?
Has anyone ordered from Amazon UK for North American delivery. Just curious what the added costs are beyond their listed shipping to North America.
What's the best way to confirm that this Blu-Ray (and others) is an all-region disc?

Thanks for any help

There should be no added cost beyond their listed shipping price to the US or at least both of my packages didn't have any extra fees.

Try to contact the company either by email or wait for other members to chime in with first hand experience.

Heads up though, a guy over at AVS posted that a website contacted the company and they told them that none of the new releases will be region free.

OK, I asked a few questions and the only relevant information I received is that "From now on all our titles will be Region B".

But on that same linked page it says.

The Fog - The Blu-ray is a dual-layer barebones release coded for Regions A and B with the film presented in 1080P 2.35:1 Widescreen (VC1) with English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. The disc was previously announced with extras - please note Optimum have informed us these will no longer be included.

honestly I don't think there is any way to know what the region code situation will be until the discs get released and are put into players.
no matter what somebody or even the company might say.
simple as that.

The best place for imprts in US is xploitedcinema.com. They are not going to be carrying anything new but if their is another import you are looking for they are the best. Top notch customer service and fastest shipping times I have seen. xploited lets you know if it will work on a US Blu-ray player.

Amazon UK is good. Like said you'll want to do some research before buying to assure region freedom. You'll also want to remeber the UK uses the pound so you'll want to double any price you see to get the US dollar amout. The eruo is about 1 euro = 1.56 US so if you order from one of the eruo based sites..

basically you also want to note that whatever price you see is actually a little less because 20% will be coming off because US residents don't have to pay the VAT tax.
so let's say you see the price of &12 with the & sign meaning "pounds."
you actually want to be thinking ok it's not really going to be costing me 12 pounds. more like 10 maybe. so then take that number and double it.
so a disc that says &12 ends up being around $20 US dollars when all is said and done.
as far as region code info there are a number of sites that have info, but one thing to note is that many releases that are foreign language only with or without subs are often NOT listed, so that info requires more research.

To be honest, I wouldn't get too excited about the upcoming blu-ray release of the Fog. I bought the UK HD DVD (same source as the blu-ray) the other week and it really isn't a stellar release. I'd hang on for a US release to see if it's any better if I was you.
