Default The Red Desert (Antonioni)

I have received word from BFI's Press Officer that Antonioni's Il Deserto Rosso will be released on Blu-Ray/SDVD immediately after their upcoming SALO. Both of those films will receive their international BR premieres through BFI and boast prints freshly telecined from the original negatives in Rome. Also in 2009 BFI are planning to bring up to 15 new releases (catalog favorites in addition) to coincide with their SDVD counterparts. The BDs will also include alternative versions so as to make them more than format upgrades according to the same source.

Ciao,
Pro-B

I know nothing about the movie, but I'm already salivating... the news of the upcoming other BFI is the ultimate tease.

Thanks for the update Pro-B. Does anyone have the rights to this in the States? I've been waiting for years to buy it. Looks like I'll be buying it from England unless Criterion is doing anything.

This is great news! Just made my morning. I cannot wait to pick this one up, I saw it in theaters last year and loved it. Good thing I kept putting off importing the SD-DVD.

I'll probably order both this and Salo BR at the same time as a birthday gift to myself. (hopefully, my birthday will make October not as expensive as it is shaping up to be)

I hate that it is locked, but I know it is only a matter of time before I am region free, and
I cannot wait to see this.
this is the kind of title I want a 100 bds of.

Why would they region lock this title? It's not going to be a big seller. Really stupid.

others have indicated that it was not bfi's preference.

certainly the upcoming Oppo Blu player will be the one to get imo if it can be made all region.
I already bought the 983 for my sd and PAL needs, but if the bd player that is supposedly coming in Q1 can do all region I will be selling the 983 and upgrading to that player for sure.
I am really hoping it comes true.
